I'm a tourist and also retarded, could you explain what this language-strip thing is to non-Americans? What is this bill?
Ok here's like a two minute explanation
If you wanted a short rifle or shotgun or a silencer , you used to have to pay a tax and register it and a bunch of paperwork bullshit and it came with a bunch of restrictions. In July 2025, A law was passed that as of January 1st, 2026, removed the tax. Because the regulations were always upheld by courts as legitimate due to government taxation powers, and since you cannot charge a tax of $0, people launched court cases to challenge the registration requirements, a Judge in Texas agreed with the plaintiff in the Case Jensen Vs. ATF 7 days ago, saying that due to the tax no longer being in effect, the registration requirements were no longer valid, but stayed the ruling for 7 days to give the government a chance to appeal, the 7 days is up in 3 hours and some change, the Government has said that they will not appeal, supposedly, meaning the ruling will go into effect and it will affect an at this moment indeterminate amount of people and should, at least in theory, If not in immediate practice, allow the purchase of short rifles, shotguns and silencers with only a standard form 4473 Background check.

This is a very big fucking deal for any Non-American who doesn't have a frame of reference.

The US has a law called the NFA which requires people to pay a tax (usually 200 dollars) to make or transfer cetain items, like suppressors, short barreled rifles, and machine guns. The US also has a system where the legislative branch usually needs to have a super majority to pass laws in one of its two houses (the senate) but is able to pass laws that are only budget-related with a simple majority through a process called reconciliation. The Republicans used this process to reduce the 200 dollar tax for some of these items to 0.

They couldn't remove these items from the NFA law because that would have been non-budget-related, but by reducing the tax to 0 they opened the door for courts to strike down the law based on other constitutional restrictions on what powers the government has. A court has now done so, and Americans with less risk aversion than I are about to do some very funny things.

If this all sounds incredibly retarded, it's because it is.

they have 60 days to appeal federally
we just got confirmation they won't

what's stopping the next admin from adding the tax back?
nothing. but the good news is that at the very least this'll create a big period of time wherein former nfa items can be purchased completely unregistered and therefore untracked by the feds, and people are gonna buy/make em like crazy. so re-enforcement is gonna be hell if they try. sorta like how biden imported 1 gazillion migrants and trump is having a really hard time dealing with it even while it's one of his #1 priorities as prez.

I just don't know guys, they have 60 days to appeal federally and what's stopping the next admin from adding the tax back? It feels like a "get your shit right now while you can" sort of thing.
Sky could fall tomorrow. Anything could happen. The point is making this happen at all. Because once it does, it now becomes much harder to undo. It is now a political football that has to be defended by politicians, for and against. It has been off the table for 90 years. It's back on. It's going to be fun.

BUT WHAT ABOUT MUH HECKING RESALE VALUE!!! I hate these boomer fucks so much x

Can someone finally hypothetically put a stock on their AR pistol now in blocklands :null:
Don’t late me mf, I’m just asking a question

According to the video: One correction from last week: short-barreled rifles and short-barreled shotguns are covered by the order, but they stillrequire a Form 4 in all 42 states. The GCA is a separate law from the NFA and it still requires Attorney General approval forthose items, and right now the Form 4 is the only form that gets you that approval. We are working with ATF to create a newform for this limited purpose.

SBR's that have been purchased still have to be registered (:_(

Andrew Clyde, The representative that put the language stripping the $200 Tax from SBR's, SBS's and Suppressors into the 2025 Big Beautiful Bill, has publicly posted that he has received confirmation that the Trump DOJ will NOT Appeal the decision, meaning that at 12:01 CDT, the Jensen Decision will go into effect

Id love to celebrate this ruling and, hopefully, its eventual adoption nationwide. But without a full repeal of the NFA what this does is create a ton of headaches and new avenues for the gun confiscation crowd to try and clamp down on gun rights.

For example, in researching how this would effect Michigans laws I found that the relevant satute (MCL 750.224(3)(C) ) is worded such that it is only people "licensed" by the ATF whom are exempt from the ban on the possession of suppressors. I think we all know how the gun grabbers are going to interpret THAT! And if they and other states manage to get favorable interpretations at the state court level it could end up MORE restrictive in some states than under the full weight of the NFA.
