CMP update:
  • well over 100,000 M14 rifles.
  • Price will be under 2,000 USD per gun
  • 2 M14s per person per year
  • early 2027, CMP is preparing infrastructure for the high demand expected
  • shotguns coming too, from all branches.
  • currently DOD is sorting all shotguns for things they want to donate
  • 2,000 or 3,000 shotguns coming from the army
  • ETA this fall
  • 498 are Winchester 1897 trench guns
  • 1911 lifetime limit to 2 per person per year.
  • 1911 Inventory remains high.

You’re probably right about that.

I’m still waiting on MEUSOC45’s to hit the CMP. Never been a big fan of GI model 1911’s.
AFAIK some guns like that have been sold. some armory modified 1911's were getting sold as the lowest grade because they had COTS parts. I know some people ended up getting National Match 1911's that way. IDK if CMP has and USMC 1911s though.

Already own a Colt M45A1, besides taking the USMC off the slide it’s got a superior finish anyways.

Is that little dip in the eject port of my 870 something I should be concerned about or is that just part and parcel with how they're manufactured? I have a newer tac-14 and it doesn't have that.

Its not like I have the entire 870 catalog but none of mine have it. Did anyone own it before you? A previous owner may have slipped while dremeling the port a bit to fix ejection/clearance issues. For a period of time Remington 870s had really terrible QC. I've heard of people having to grind out the port or re-rivet the ejector rail.

Is it smooth or does it have jagged edges/chips missing? Does it bulge outward? Are there tool marks in the cut? Is it bare metal or is there coating in there?

It was preowned a 870 tactical model older as you can tell by the fourth screw in the front fucking hate that thing because it doesn't really serve a purpose, but all in all perfectly fine condition and I've never had any issues that weren't a result of the shotgun rather just some shitty turkish ammo being stubborn in the receiver, doesn't feel jagged at all it's smooth so maybe it's a milling issue.

In that case, its not hugely concerning to me. Like you said, its also entirely possible that the milling machine made a small error like knicking it while reaching into the ejection port to machine something behind it. It seems within the bounds for possible workmanship/material error so you can send pictures of it to Remington's warranty department if it really bothers you.

I've been running a experiment, and this is still ongoing, but I'll share what's happened so far. Lots of people are afraid of using blued guns because they think they'll rust immediately. So, for the last few weeks I've intentionally not oiled my trusty Ruger Blackhawk. It's been hot and humid with a little rain. There isn't any rust so far.

(I still oil the bore and chambers)

That sounds insanely unconstitutional. I thank God every day for being born an Idahoan.

Those laws will never go away unless some sort of dream team in the Feds pass a law nullifying all state gun laws. Shit, NC just got rid of their pistol purchase law - you still have to go to your sheriff’s office in Nebraska and pay a 5USD fee to acquire one that’s valid for three years unless you have a CHP.
