and why has it not been replaced yet?

Basically every country that isn’t running DSHK’s and Kords is running the M2. Every other decade some companies tries to make a weapon to replace it and they’re always deemed inferior or not good enough to justify the replacement.

It’s proliferation is a sight to behold.

I've been looking at the federal lead nose standard hollow points to use in my WW1 5 screw on the special occasions I carry it. It really loves the standard LRN federals. It doesn't like the others I've tried. The UMC ones work okay. I'd love to run modern plus p or jacketed ammo. But not nearly as much as I wouldn't love even the risk of damage to the gun. For the other dorks with old 5 screw models, there's a dude that makes repro WonderSights on eBay. I consider it quality of life. No permanent changes and can actually adjust your rear sight to play with it and Dial it in. Tack driver now.

Back in the late 80s or 90s FN, who have been one of the main manufacturers for Ma Deuce, even tried to replace it with a new HMG design somewhat inspired by the Soviet 14.5x114mm HMGs like the KPV. It was called the BRG-15 and initially fired a 15mm projectile from a necked down 20mm Hispano cartridge, but eventually they bumped it up to a 15.5mm projectile after testing found the 15mm projectile was causing rapid barrel ware. It used disintegrating links and had a dual-feed system, and the quick change barrel assembly it utilized went on to be used on the upgraded M2HB version of Ma Deuce.

One issue with the M2 caused because it's a design from the earliest days of machine gun design, is headspacing. If the headspacing is off even a little then the weapon doesn't run right, so proper headspacing is important and time consuming. Poor headspacing could be one reason you sometimes see operators firing an M2 in videos having the weapon stop and having to charge the handle before resuming fire. Another issue can be older ammo being used during range practice, or even being in combat and only having older ammo on hand depending on the context of the video being watched.

But it's still an effective design even after 100 years of being built. Sometimes they just get things right the first time for the most part, needing only minor updates over time to improve what can be improved, and a replacement would need to be significantly better or more effective to justify the cost of replacement. And really, if you need something more than a fucking fifty cal M2, then our military has plenty of options already, like 25mm Bushmaster and other auto-cannons.

That issue was fixed with the M2A1 update over a decade ago, in 2010 and could have been fielded in the late 1990s if the money was there.

Now for a sweet sweet Turkish SPAS-12 clone

Sulun arms SPASS-12. I can't find much else about it and the other Turkish SPAS-12 clone by Bronco arms seems to be MiA.

Ronin Leatherworks emailed me yesterday about my holster. At first he said it'd take him about two months to get it done, but his email said he should have it done by Friday and I can go pick it up this upcoming weekend. Gonna drive up Sunday to get it. I'm very excited.

Way way late to the rack vs slide stop debate but I do have one small contribution.

I have had agnostic instruction between the two, however the one thing that was emphasized was that if you have a gun where you can slam a mag and have that release the slide, that you should never rely on that as part of your reloading muscle memory. Train assuming it never works, so you aren't flat footed when it fucks up.

I'd say it barely qualifies as a weeb gun because only the top 0.01% of weebs can afford one, was it even in any anime or manga other than ghost in the shell? If watching that makes you a weeb making a spaghetti makes you a chef.

I only ever see anime niggas discuss the Jericho and USP40
honorable mention to the FN P90 for whatever reason that feels really weeby

Jericho with the custom cowboy bebop grips is definitely a huge weeb handgun but Arisaka rifles are the biggest weeb rifle imo. They're
>thing, Japan
in rifle form. You have to be either a collector autist or a weeb autist to want one because while they're nice they're expensive to shoot and the early ones that actually stand out as nice guns are as expensive as any other desireable bolt action milsurp in good condition.

Vash and Knives' revolvers in Trigun are loosely based on it as well, they're kind of a mishmash between the Unica and the MP-412 REX (the barrel is on the bottom like the unica, the top half is sci-fi magic bits, break action for high-speed rule-of-cool reloads)

Wow, nigga, I don't post for a couple months and you fucks are out for my blood.

To add to the list, I would argue anything oversized or comped.

Every anime handgun is like 17 inches long. Dante has like 14 inch 1911s, Alucard has basically a 20 inch 1911, everybody has a big longus dongus.

But arguably it's the Jericho.
It's so weeby that the guy who made Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex gave one of the characters a Jericho 942, basically just big Jericho chambered in 50 AE. I can't think of something more weeby than taking the weeb gun from Bebop and making it bigger so you can put it in your anime. The Deagle was right there and he decided that Spike's gun but bigger was the way to go.
I love my Jericho. Finest handgun ever created. I have gotten many compliments on my Jericho. Anyone 40+ that I've let shoot it has talked about how they had no idea it existed and it being such an enjoyable and well made shooter.
Anyone 35 and younger has talked about how cool it is that I have Spike's gun.
