Are we allowed to talk about gear in here? I've been training with my local state militia and need a real "battle belt" or whatever you wanna call it. Looking at some of the offerings from AWS. Is blue alpha slop? The fact that they sponsor like every single YouTuber makes me worry that the quality is not there.

I don't need top of the line, but I don't want chinkshit either. What pouches and stuff do I want on my belt? I already have a Haley micro rig with 3 rifle mags and 2 pistol mags. Also, best way to attach a safariland holster for muh m9?

We have a thread to talk gear but it's no where near as active. Boney's training and gear thread has some talk about what to buy.

I don't have an opinion on Blue Alpha, I use a Wilder Tactical. If in doubt, just buy a Molle belt from VTAC and use Esstac pouches until you figure out what you want. There are so many high speed, low drag type slimline belts on the market, it's normal to feel overwhelmed by the offerings. I'll say to avoid any belt that forces you to cut down to size (GBRS) and you don't need a D link clip since you aren't riding around on helicopters or boats, so no need to tether (slim line battle belts make for a poor swami belts in my opinion and I wouldn't trust my life to one).

I personally run two pistol pouches, one rifle pouch, have a Spirtus JSTA pouch with a rifle mag slide in and a pistol mag slide, then have my IFAK. Because I use it for the range classes a lot, it has a Walker hear pro holder, and I use Wilder's QLS attachement for holster attachement. When I finally replace the pouches with Esstac, I'm going to make room for a dump pouch. I carry three pistol magazine pouches because I do a lot of pistol classes and training and my plate carrier doesn't have any pistol mag pouches on it.

the gun industry is still tightly under the influence of the boomer hive mind and they were raised to consider scarcity a sign of trouble so they freak out at the start of every season. literally every year when the weather gets good enough to shoot regularly you hear about "ammo shortages" and every year around september they bitch about "shotgun shortages" because the store shelves are picked clean

i bought a 32 h&r revolver off of a guy because he thought you couldn't buy ammo for it anymore since no stores carry it. you look online and there's loads of stock because nobody fuckin buys it

That is allegedly one of the submissions from Project Grayburn, the British project to replace the SA80. It might be replacing the discontinued SCAR Models. The DOD might just be going with Federal Peak Alloy with case technology for the HICAR program (and maybe beyond as the press release mentions cartridges .50 BMG and below) . The Agreement says that DOD has to buy 40 million cases before they have the option of buying the rights to the technology.

Part of it is that last year was so bad that many major ammo manufacturers had frozen hiring and were doing layoffs by attrition. The panic bump from the start of the war in the Middle East caught the entire industry by surprise and it takes months to ramp production back up as new employees need to be trained, materials need to be bought and then shipped.

For the shotgun hunting market. The tariffs on the high end materials (tungsten and bismuth) are driving many of the small manufacturers that sprung up in the past 10 years out of business. BOSS decided to very publicly go all in on copper shot to the point of selling and marketing it as legal for waterfowl hunting. This has 2 small issues, 1. Copper shot has to be passivated with a corrosion inhibiting coating as it will leach into water and upset algae growth in order to be legal for waterfowl according to the USFWS. To make sure it’s passivated USFWS requires the passivation coating to include a dye that glows under ultraviolet light. 2. The Kinetic Group (Federal, Hevi-Metal, Remington etc.) has a patent on this type of coating that doesn’t expire till 2033. USFWS just came out and told them the stuff they have been selling is not legal for waterfowl hunting. This resulted in the owner Brandon Cereke crashing out on the Facebook fan page complete with boomer asking Grok screenshots.

God, I despise the push for copper monolithic projectiles of all forms. Copper is not better than lead. full stop. in rifles it requires high velocity to perform on target, which is hampered by the fact that copper bullets are generally longer than a lead counterpart, which cuts back on powder capacity and thus velocity. Velocity that is required for the bullet to work.

Much is made about weight retention. this isn't a good thing. Without velocity, the bullet must shed weight to transfer energy. if the bullet cannot shed weight, it's no better than a FMJ. the wound might still be deadly, but it won't be fast and you'll likely lose the animal in the timber.

for waterfowl: Bismuth is the best non-tox shot. it performs the same as lead. steel is shit and always has been. produces poor kills or just wounds. non-tox shot might be environmentally good but it's not as ethical.

Technically TSS is the best. It has a higher density allowing for smaller pellets to perform the same as larger lead ones while the higher hardness also allows it to resist setback allowing you to get higher pattern efficiency. The problem is always cost. In the current market you are looking at $1300-2000 a case of 200 rounds for tungsten waterfowl.

Second best would be tungsten matrix which is tungsten powder in a polymer matrix to replicate the malleability and density of lead. Unfortunately it has the same cost issue as TSS and Kent has discontinued it.

Bismuth has fracturing issues as it’s soft but brittle. Its density is approximately halfway between steel and lead but its cost has tripled in the past year due to tariffs and it being used in the semiconductor manufacturing process.

Copper has the benefit of not suffering from the fracturing issue of bismuth but its density is half way between steel and bismuth. It’s also about 2x the price of steel. Other issue right now is that the only approved shot is under patent by Federal.

Steel is ok as long as you don’t take any shots beyond 40yds. The reason it got adopted was that a bunch of double blind studies in the 70s and 80s found that no matter if a hunter was shooting lead or steel beyond 35yds cripple numbers were the same. Turns out most hunters are bad shots.

TLDR: every shot type has issues and it’s a question of what tradeoffs you want to make.

The Dillon SL900. I have two friends that have used that for years. Both use theirs a lot but one has loaded easily 12k+ shotshells on his in the 7 years we've been friends.

Not cheap but well worth it if you can swing it.

Dillon looked sick especially with a case feeder. None of the guys I shoot with have them for shotshell oddly, even the wealthier guys skip Dillon and go for fancy shit like spolar and other brands I've never heard of.

Ended up snagging a lightly used MEC 9000GN and an inline fab quick change plate. Not a lot of room in my garage and have familiarity with MEC. My single stage is from the 70s and MEC sent me replacement parts.

I know the current meta says reloading isn't worth it but for me, this is hobby time, I want to be picky. Remington STS hulls, 1oz at 1150 fps. Nice and soft shooting for a couple hundred practice targets a week.
