I want to paint my WARP-15 tupperware AR, wondering what different posters approaches to gun painting look like. Are those "camo" marketed spraypaints worth getting over standard Krylon?

Hop did a video on it recently, he doesn't flat-out say it but he seems to think they're worth it since he shows himself buying it in the video. Having used them myself they definitely have a different look from standard spray paint, they're more of a true matte finish compared to normal matte spraypaint being more of a low luster/satin finish in my eyes (I'm a painter by trade so the finish differences are very noticeable to me). I don't know this 100%, but since it's intended for hunters I assume it has a more neutral IR balance as well which should give it better performance against night vision since some animals are more sensitive to IR light (hop talks about this in the video but I don't think he makes a paint recommendation for it, just cerakote)

If you actually want it to be camouflaged I'd say it's worth it, but I don't like how it looks personally, at least as far as a solid color goes, though if you're doing patterns it looks much better there. For looks I'd just buy whatever plastic rated spray paint you like the color of in satin and have fun

None of my guns stay black for long. Black eats up the sun like crazy and frankly a worn painted look is kino as hell.

For looks I'd just buy whatever plastic rated spray paint you like the color of in satin and have fun

Also, surface prep and a good primer are worth taking time on. Even simply wiping down the whole thing with copious amounts of rubbing alcohol will go a long way towards keeping it looking good down the road. I've only painted a couple of rifles, but my most recent one has held up for a few years with minimal wear (it is admittedly mostly a range and hunting toy):



EDIT: Also, if you're going to do a somewhat more complex paint scheme like I did above, it's worth taking a practice run - I had a takeoff stock from a Ruger American Ranch that I shot that snakeskin pattern onto first, but it doesn't have to be a gun stock - you can use scrap construction lumber or whatever to test your pattern out.

Any of you lot have experience with the Ruger Hawkeye? I got an opportunity to get one from a coworker for the friends price before he puts it on consignment, it's the stainless model in 6.5 sneed.

Rust-Oleum camos are probably the move unless there's something better. They're not too expensive and are at Walmart which puts them ahead imo. Definitely wanna do acetone wipe and for plastic even a sanding to improve adhesion as all good plastics don't chemically bond so you're essentially improving the mechanical bond.

I resprayed my lamp post and gave no fucks a few years ago and now for any 15 footer job I hit that stuff up.

Rustoleum has a lot more options and colors but if you're just slapping shit on like a meme camo save a few bucks.

I used alumahyde on a 92FS once.
I didn't let it cure long enough (without heat it takes weeks) so i scratched it the first time I shot it.
It looked nice though.

My guntism doesn't allow me to shoot projectiles other than what i carry. I can't stand it.

My carry projectiles are Speer 300gr Jacketed soft points for my .45. on the rare occasion i carry a 9mm i just use ball ammunition. "They all fall to hard ball" the saying goes. I favor penetration in handguns.

Does anyone have any experience with Remington 740/760/7600 rifles? I see them on Simpson's cheap as hell all the time, just seems like something neat to pick up when I've got the extra cash. I know .308 and .30-06 aren't the cheapest these days...

they were extremely popular guns in their time, especially in new england where the woods are thick and shots are fleeting. They have a nasty reputation for jamming. The magazines apparently wear out. I wouldn't know.

Literally no reason not to buy cheap and in bulk for training. You get nothing out of putting good ammo into the dirt.

Zero on the good stuff then practice with the cheap stuff. I drill with jam-o-matic turk shit, or like yesterday 1,500rds of steel case showed up at my door. Before that is was suspiciously priced .223 reloads. Back in the day I bought fuck tons of tula/sgt.major/wolf.

I have never had any adverse effect on my firearms from shooting crap. You are blowing money you don't need too or not shooting as often as you should.

Remington 740

Properly lubricated, they're decent. However they have thin receiver walls and can be prone to bending, improper magazine seating causes reliability issues, removing said magazine is ridiculously difficult and the magazines themselves are unserviceable/irreparable beyond a certain point.

See above but manual action and with the accompanying harsh recoil, unfortunately they're considered better than the 740 and are now laughably overpriced. I would advise against spending the $1,000+ most listings demand.

ETA: I'd rather get one of the Browning BARs from them if I had to choose
