Hey! I didn't know we have a gun thread. I collect antiques, mostly black powder, but a few smokeless. My main style I collect is the snider Enfield .577 but I have a few nice webleys, a repro percussion navy colt, some muskets and a whole bunch of random.
most are weird calibers so I do my own reloading. I'll take some pics in a bit, just I think most of the ones I have include my face and that ain't happening.

I've wanted one of those for a long time to restore, sadly since it shoots a cartridge while those or Martini's aren't "guns" to the US it's still a BIG no no to saw one off and make a home made howda pistol :(

I adore those big old rounds and anything single shot makes my pants shorter. Would love to see some pics.

You can't leave it at
pic of one of my gun safe work? ill add some random as well.

pics of some of my random pistols, and my reloading station.

you know you can reload .577 with shotgun shells right? makes it semi cheaper. I have a shit load of brass for it so its no biggie, but I use .577 for hunting deer (mostly just so I have defence if I run into a grizzly) so ill probably reload some plastic cases soon and start carrying one of my .303s as well.

You are my hero. Black powder is pure sex.

Black powder is pure sex.
Pretty much. Like I said, I have a few smokeless but I think everyone of them is pre world war 1. I do have a beautiful officers smith and Wesson mark II hand ejector which I have all the info for the officer, he died at the battle of the somme. The only firearm that is post-wwI I have is a .22 anshutz, purely because it's what I started shooting competitively at 11 and is awesome for grouse.

here is one of my webleys in action

I would love to get a Webley in .455 or one converted to .45 Colt or. 45 ACP. I'm a big revolver fan and after I get my modern "tactical" guns bought I'll be buying older style firearms. I want to start a WWII military firearms collection, get a C96 Broom Handle Mauser, and some "cowboy" guns. I also want to start buying pre-1975 Smith and Wesson pinned and recessed magnums. In particular I want a pinned and recessed S&W Model 57 .41 Magnum with a 4" barrel and get either Sambar Stag, American Elk, or Mammoth or Mastodon ivory grips for it. It'll be my special occasion and barbecue carry gun and I'll get an exotic leather holster for it, like Stingray skin, Shark skin, or Croc/Gator skin.

Yes it is. I have a 44-40 load her hot it's comical. Ball butter is an investment I also have a BP rifle so much fun.

I do like me some webley but I couldn't buy one not in .455 because I'm a history geek practicality be damned!

Nice get Null! If you have anymore questions feel free to hit me up any time. I'm considering an HK VP9 for a carry gun myself, and my wife really likes them as well. We've had her try several different handguns and the VP9 and P30 fit her the best.
The slide and slide release were very tight at first but after dry firing it a few times I think it's loosened up. Either that or my thumbs toughened up and has less trouble pulling it down. It's pretty awkward to get to. That's my only complaint, the gun is a perfect fit.

Don't use the slide release. Get in the habit of pulling the slide back when you reload. It's a gross motor movement and will be easier to manipulate over the slide release if you ever have to use it to defend yourself. Fine motor movements, like trying to hit a 4mm wide tab on a slide release with your thumb, are the first things to leave you when the adrenaline hits in a high stress situation.

What do you mean? I can't unlock the slide any other way.

What do you mean? I can't unlock the slide any other way.

You know how when you insert a loaded magazine when the slide is all the way forward and then pull the slide all the way to the rear and release it to chamber a round? Well you can do the same thing when the slide is locked back and you either don't have a magazine in the grip or have a loaded magazine inserted. You can't do it with an empty magazine inserted because the follower will just keep the slide release up, but you can do it with a loaded mag or with no mag inserted.

Yes.
Can then yank mag put another round +1 carry for the spec ops status.

If I remember a well known rap song...

got 16 in the clip, 1 in the hole Null Dog gonna make some bodies go cold.

So if the slide is locked back from either firing your last shot, pulling the slide back with an empty magazine inserted, or by pushing the slide lock up while pulling the slide back, and then you insert a loaded magazine the slide will stay back until you either push the slide release down or pull the slide back far enough for the slide release to drop on its own. You can also do this when the slide is locked back and there is no magazine inserted in the weapon.

Try it yourself. Put an empty magazine in your VP9. Pull the slide back so that the slide release locks the slide back. Remove the empty mag while the slide is locked back. Without touching the slide release, grab the rear of your slide like you would to rack it. Pull it back until the slide release drops, then release the slide. It will work the same way with a loaded magazine because the follower is at the bottom of the magazine and thus cannot engage the slide release to lock the slide back. This is the best way to drop the slide when you reload, especially if you're going to have the weapon for self defense, because as I pointed out earlier it is easier to manipulate the slide with your hand rather than a tiny slide release with the tip of your thumb when adrenaline kicks in and your fine motor skills fail.

Edit: to answer your question, no. Inserting a loaded magazine by itself will not drop the slide. The slide will stay locked back until you either pull the slide to the rear and then release it, or push the slide release down and drop the slide. When the slide does drop it will load the first round.
