Where can i find the steel slides for P38s? I picked up a P38 for cheap cause the aluminum slide had a crack from shooting hot 9mm. I've been looking but only see the aluminium ones

If the big antique/surplus gun parts websites like Apex Gun Parts, Numrich and Liberty Tree aren't carrying what you're looking for, the next best bet is usually to skim Armslist (make sure you toggle "vendors that ship"), Gunbroker and eBay. Original replacement parts are kind of a crapshoot for old guns, but particularly popular ones generally have a decent secondary market for new-made replacements.

they're sometimes available in auctions for surplus parts. the entire slide assembly is interchangeable between the P38 and P1 and if you have a P38 with the wartime steel frame, there is no significant difference with the P1 aluminum slide other than small parts and the addition of a steel insert in the later production aluminum frames to prevent peening. early P1 frames were surplus parts and might also be available (any P1 marked slide prior to 1975 will be a steel slide).

>buying Kel-Tech products
Kel-Tec is one of a few innovators in the gun world. production can be sketchy as their operation is quite small. they are generally fairly good weapons at a low price point often with very unique features or design.

This is possibly the most accurate fudd meme I have ever seen in my life.

So true, I view gun shows like antique stores, fun to look and 1/10th of the time maybe find a deal and out of that 1/10 of those are deals for something you want or can afford.

The funniest gun show story was I had just bought a type 99, slinged it on my back and walking around, some old fudd says nice rifle how much, I told him I just bought it not for sale. He looks at it and goes oh it's a JAP rifle I don't want it anyways.

I knew exactly what he was doing trying to grab it for 40 bucks and slap on his table for 600.

Big 4 was selling 22lr versions of this, if only I had the money to buy it. Now they don't sell them in California anymore.

Save up and get the repo Gun Jesus has made (Forgotten Weapons), my friend has one of those 22's it's not bad at all. But well, you just want real BLAST when you hear the 22 tinking away, and I don't mean to insult 22lr at all.

It has no issues eating most ammo, looks awesome but aside the price jump for a repo, or price jump (more than your car) for a real one. It's just not the same, and I try to be objective af when it comes to fire arms but this is just so close, it's like a kit car looking like a lambo but just a mx5 under it, the mx5 being a wonderful thing in it's own right.

I'm going to slightly shill here, but I think it's too cool to pass up on.

I felt like I can share this here even though it isn't a big good super power gun with a fancy acronym and numbers. There's 2 guys who has been working on electromagnetic firearms for 3 years I believe? Could be longer. They're called Arcflash labs and they had a prototype sale for a gauss pistol! It was a limited sale though, so I'm fairly certain they're out.

This is a single stage gauss pistol. The battery compartment is under the large cylinder which further charges up the electricity I believe. Upon pull of the hair trigger the electricity goes into the brass wiring and fires the metal projectile. The projectiles are basic rods you can use to put up shelves! The metal bar on top of the barrel is the heat sink- and the whole thing is 3D printed!

They're improving their technology real quick too! They have a prototype railgun that's about the size of a rife! At least about the size you'd think of when someone says rifle!

In the case you want to see how far they've gone to now here's their last update video where they go over the new rifle and advances in a single stage of Gauss coiling!

Their end goal is to make a military ready electromagnetic rifle! So you can even go hunting with it. I got to fire the gauss pistol they made and for now they're a glorified BB gun. What's fun is you can even make these at home! Though not as advanced as these! Just be sure not to fire it too much as heat is a problem (a heat sink can only do so much) and for now they're useless in rain or wet conditions.

They forgot one of my favorites the person with no clue of fire arm laws.

I've had a few times where my tax stamp toys have been questioned in legality.

I would keep anything, that isn't your regular weapon, separated just as a matter of routine (I never know what combo I am going to take to the range next).

But in the end, unless you have someone gunning for you, or you are stupid on the internet, it really doesn't matter.

Edit: I guess I could ask here.

I have an old Para-Tac 4, and it is starting to have some feed issues after many thousands of rounds have been put through it.

For Reference:
View attachment 1111783

It was a fairly nice .45 acp handgun with a 13+1 rd capacity.

I was wondering if any of you guys knew a modern upgrade/replacement that won't break the bank.

Preferably in the same caliber just so that I can have something that shoots .45 that isn't a 1911.
Feed issues can generally be boiled down to either the mag needs replacing (the spring might be worn out) or you need a new recoil spring. The Wolff springs probably has it and they are pretty good on price. My bhp spring was like 13 bucks if that.

Is it normal for ARs to have problems seating mags? Didn't have any problems at first but recently have been having trouble getting them to lock into place unless I use a little force.

Even when the bolt is locked back or with an empty mag? If the bolt is closed it will take a little force as the top round gets pushed down like 1/16th-1/8th" as it presses on the bottom of the BCG (the more full the mag, the more force needed. Maybe try taking out a round or 2). If the bolt is open or mag is empty it should slide easily in all the way to locked.

Maybe a mag issue? I only use PMags.

Have you adjusted/replaced your mag release?Maybe it's overtightened? Maybe back it off a revolution or two.

it should move into place easily with the bolt carrier group held to the rear. if it's binding somewhere it can be identified by looking for shiny spots on the plastic or aluminum of the magazine where it's rubbing on the interior of the magazine well.

on a closed bolt, and a full magazine, it will take a small amount of force to fully seat, as noted by @Particle Bored , however even fully loaded unused magazines should not be difficult to seat on a closed bolt if you reload smartly, with authority and slap the bottom of the magazine on seating to ensure it engages the magazine catch.

the most common difficulties are either an out of spec magazine (one-off problems with the welding on the body of the magazine), the magazine not being fully compatible with the lower (non-standard AR-15 lowers and non-standard magazines can combined to not fit together properly - EMAGs in a Hesse receiver for example), or an out of spec lower (a distant third, but sometimes flashing or artifacts of the manufacturing process can have a ridge or something on the interior of the magazine well so that the clearance for magazines is lower than what it should be).

it's usually best to identify and replace out of spec parts and replace them, or if the out of spec part is difficult to replace, to determine a least-intensive adjustment can be made to allow fitting of out of spec and in spec parts.
Anyone here ever owned a Meprolight M21?
they used to be a very popular item in my shop, and i still have a few kicking around. they're fairly good, rugged reflex sights although somewhat tall compared to alternatives in the 30mm size.

I'm using G2 PMags.

I fiddled with the mag release a little and that seems to have solved the problem, thanks for the help.

Planning to get a couple, hope Mepro doesn't charge up the ass in 10 years time when it comes to replacing the tritium.
