Considering a lot of focus was put on both the classic series and the
X series, it's definitely possible. They probably expect us to play both series back to back now that they'll be so readily accessible, and then
11 will come along as the bridge game between the two.
At the same time, though, I don't think Capcom wants to end any of the series that have yet to see a definite conclusion. The only options we were given up until now pretty much were a new classic game, a new
X game, and a new
Legends game. And it's not in spite of but precisely
because of the debacle that took place post-
X5 (for those who are unaware, Inafune intended on capping the
X series off at
X5 and moving on to the
Zero series until Capcom decided to rush out
X6, an unbalanced, unpolished clusterfuck of a game, for release just a year after the previous one). Plus,
there was a survey in Japan last year that hinted at a
Mega Man 11 and a rerelease of one of the non-classic series (most likely
X), which were exactly what was just announced.
