Ruby Spears had the best Roll (by virtue of it not being pedobait) and Pharaoh Man (by virtue of just socking Mega in the jaw) though.
Anything is better than the portrayal of the robot masters in Captain N, as Cutman looked like a guy wearing a football helmet with scissors glued on top.

The rest of the Captain N versions are not much better as they look like they were done by Chris Chan.

I didn't say RS as a whole as bad - I said this comic is bad. Particularly with the closeup of Mega Man's face.

Pharaohman still kicked his ass in this comic, but overall the comic looks like it took itself too seriously.

They really loved not using the robot masters in those old Megaman related cartoons. Even in Ruby Spears most of them were lucky to show up more than once. Always found that odd.

I quoted this by accident because I'm a faggot and don't know how to remove it. Sorry.

If I recall correctly, they didn't have the manual for the Mega Man games, so they were going off of sprites in-game, on top of working on a deadline. It might explain the shitty color palette for them, too.

The ones that showed up in a later episode were even worse than that. I question if they saw what the robot masters looked like at all, by that point.

I think Roll from Battle Network has the coolest design, even if people fap to her. There's also other older versions of Roll aside from the Ruby Spears one, most people probably forgot Bad Box Art Roll exists (who ironically doesn't actually look bad like Mega Man does lol).

If there's a Battle Network version of Pharaoh Man that's probably his best design too, like most characters (especially Bass). For as much as I like the BN designs in general though, I think Mega Man and Proto Man have some of the weaker redesigns (still fantastic though tbh).

Heat Man looks great in the exe series. Little dude came straight outta hell.

What? MMBN Proto is a Zero edit. You're killing me here.

Looks more like a fusion of the two, which is weird enough. I'm not sure why they did that for him, the other characters don't seem to have gotten that treatment.
The excuse was that scarf wasn't allowed. No, really. That was the excuse given, because it was cloth and that somehow went against the vibe of computer stuff.

Of course, I wouldn't trust that answer when you remember that Zero was supposedly based on Proto Man in the first place.

That's certainly a bad excuse considering Bass has a damn poncho/cape thing.

That cloak style was just another thing from Casshan, so I imagine it was allowed to slide because of that.

MMZ Zero used the exact same motif in the Z2 intro.
Isn't Proto's motif based on some old anime, too, though? At the very least, it's reminiscent of Toku heroes.
