Watching the VOTOMS OVAs out of OCD. Apparently there's stuff in Pailsen Files in SRWZ2, so I'm forced to watch all of them to understand better. Haven't gotten there yet, though - watched Last Red Shoulder, Big Battle, Roots Of Ambition, Shining Heresy, Finder, Case Irvine, Alone Again, and 4 episodes of Phantom Arc so far.

I'm mostly a whole lot of bored watching these things. It's a bunch of conflicts I have no interest in, and I especially don't like Shining Heresy killing off Fyana so Chirico gets stuck being a lonely wandering Kenshiro type who beats all the bad guys with supernatural luck. At least Last Red Shoulder had some neat action and character backstory for Ypsilon while Finder and Case Irvine were thin but decent self-contained stories
I like Last Red Shoulder and Roots of Ambition. I can take or leave the rest. They all just sorta retread ground from the series, even the two I like, and fill in gaps that really didn't need filling. They're all just "more Votoms". Which is nice. But they're really nothing I'd recommend to anyone who wasn't hardcore into the setting.

Crossposting but it is this veteran VA's birthday

He was Akito from Nadesico. It's been 20 years since a planned sequel was scrapped.

Got 8 episodes in before I found out I'm supposed to watch a movie/special called "Mazinger Z vs Ankoku Daishogun" first before moving on to Great.
Despite several pirate sites listing it, they're all dead files. Fucking typical.

EDIT: Watched it. Man were the subs terrible.

engagement of crabsticks you have obtained

the big finale of Wataru being "heh, fart" hits pretty hard fr fr
first time I really understood a joke in Japanese was raw DBZ on International Channel, when Mister Satan realizes what the "buu" in Majin Boo meant

Sorry for bringing the thread back to Bald Omnicide Man again.

Watched all of Daitarn 3 in a week. I also think I discovered a new alias for Tomino in "Noboru Tateya" - they're only listed as having worked on "Literature" for Zambot and one clip show episode of Daitarn.
Anyone here know where I can watch highlights of the Italian version?

For some reason I keep thinking I can't watch Dougram without balancing it out with something worse.
So I decided I need to watch Garzey's Wing. But I'm only gonna watch subbed because I'm a massive coward who doesn't want my earlobes to commit suicide.

is Garzey the one where the fairies have more like whizzy bug wings instead of the flap flap?
I forget which Byston Well that was but that was a cool variant

Garzey's Wing is the SHOW ME THE ANCIENT JAPANASE MAN'S SPIRIT one. The one without robots.

I could not find Grendizer subs that weren't total ass. But I'm 53 episodes in and it gets a lot more enjoyable 35 episodes in when the new Spazers start showing up.
I think Grendizer is the weakest of the Mazinger trilogy, but when it's good, the show's GOOD. It helps that there's a big tick in animation quality. It and Getter Robo G will legitimately surprise people at times with how nice the shows look.

I feel that Great Mazinger's the weakest, honestly. Fewer cool moves than the Z, Jun and Boss hardly ever get cool moments, Kouji ends up stealing the show when he comes back at the end, and the way it handles its villains is inexcusably boring. The show starts off by introducing a whole seven Mycenaean Generals with the same size and aesthetic as its Monsters of the Week, and you'd think the show would mix these guys in throughout the show as minibosses being whittled down as we go, but all they ever do is trade up officer duties for the Mikelos and later Demonica each episode. They're all completely interchangable and forgettable, and it's ridiculous that all these guys survive until the last few episodes. Meanwhile the actually interesting villains introduced back in Z (Archduke Gorgon and Ankoku Daishogun) get killed off halfway through the show in what are admittedly highlight episodes, and they have to resort to resurrecting Dr. Hell to put an interesting face on the bad guys.
