All discussion of the candidates, updates and results should go here

For example- here's a video of Ted Cruz vying for world domination.

Also Hilary Clinton is a crook and nobody should have sex with her.

Discuss

That's what makes this even more amusing to me really. If the Democrats higher ups weren't such spineless sycophants then they might have produced a candidate who wasn't Hillary Clinton, and literally anybody else would have beaten Trump comfortably.

Instead they produced literally the only human being in America capable of losing this election to the Donald.

It was amusing that the Democrats insisted on running the primary candidate who fared worse than the other against the Republicans.

Sanders may have had more of a fight on his hands on selling his policies, but I doubt that he'd have a minefield of personal history to navigate like Clinton does.

I don't think Bernie would have been able to win over voters quite like Clinton is. Nobody really likes Clinton, this is true. But the thing people keep ignoring is that Trump has basically got the far-right fanatic vote locked down, which just so happens to be about 30-40% of the country. I think liberals keep telling themselves that it's solely about Clinton because the thought of living in a country where this many people genuinely love Trump scares the shit out of them (as it should). But unfortunately for them it's true. Massive swathes of the republican party are in love with Donnie boy. Clinton is winning because she's just centrist enough to be palatable to a lot of independents and moderate conservatives and present herself as a reasonable option. Sanders? I'm not so sure he'd be able to pull that off. Berniebros keep making the mistake of assuming that the whole country agrees with them.

Nah I'm a staunch liberal and I like Donald Trump. I hope he wins.

That's a bit of an about face.

nah b/c being tough on illegal immigrants means you need to streamline the legal immigration process to replace all your toilet-cleaners and hotel maids. Trump is basically the best friend of the Meixcans while Hillary wants to keep them non-citizens, unprotected by law and essentially a slave caste.

That's a bit of an about face.
He's called for a 'pause' in legal immigration as well so that sign just seems like a nice meme

EDIT: He reversed and then re-reversed(?) his stance on extending H-1B visas so honestly idk lol.

He has said that the prevailing wages for H1-Bs should go up (except for all the times when he said that the visa program should be scrapped altogether or that it's totally cool and fine as it is) and I think that's a decent idea

EDIT: Have some memes while you're at it

The 2012 GOP autopsy was pretty indicative of how separated the establishment was from the base, at least as far as the GOP goes. The autopsy called for a "big tent" reachout to mexicans and blacks; Donald Trump came along, took a dump on it, then tore a piece off to wipe. This is not the party for minorities nor does its base want it to be. It will not change after 2016.

There goes the efforts to get nationalism out of the hands of dickheads and racialists.

I remember somebody here saying Trump didn't need to "pander" to minorities...clearly that is turning out to be wronger than wrong.

Make of this what you will, I feel sorry for the kids of that 20%

A fair portion of Clinton's supporters are on board with her strictly because she's a woman. Given that ironic sexism, Sanders might have had trouble securing their votes, but I doubt they'd have voted for Trump in quantity.

Based on what I've read in the polls and seen when talking amongst friends (with a mix of politics between them), I would say Democrats are underestimating just how corrosive Clinton is to their support. It has cost them plenty, I can assure you.

As far as winning over the far right goes--good luck. I doubt anybody even centrist in leaning would be able to (much less a liberal). They are a big portion of solid Republican support but they would not be an insurmountable obstacle, particularly given how the Electoral College works.

You kind of need a source before you decide that half of your country are 'Far Right Lunatics.'

Hillary Clinton
I'm voting Hillary Clinton. I avoid talking politics on this sub-forum on this forum because politics are divisive, there are always two sides. Republicans and Democrats, there's a left and there's a right. I can have my opinion and there will always be an opposing one. That is the nature of a healthy democracy, but this is not that, this is about a megalomaniac is driven by nothing but ego. A man who cares exactly zero about the people of this country. A person who brags about sexually assaulting women and shames others for the way they look. I'm speaking up now because this election has very little to do with politics, policy, or legislation. This has to do with morals, and principles. I'm voting for Hillary because it make no mistake there is only one person that can defeat him, one person that can keep him away from power and it is her. I'm not a huge fan of her style of politics. I'm entirely aware of all the criticism against her, I'm aware of all her failures and shortcomings, but she's intelligent, and she knows what she's doing. More importantly, she's mentally sound, she's responsible, and she's sane. I want to end this by calling out all big KiwiFarmers, some that I know, and some that other may know. See, making posts like this they're not popular. They're not going to get you followers, they're not going to boost your positive ratings, but there is something much more valuable than followers or positive ratings. And that is backbone. That is not being scared to stand up for what is right regardless of the cost. The top 20 KiwiFarmers reach over a million positive ratings every single week every seven days. We have the power to activate a demographic electorate that isn't typically very active, that is young people. See, this generation if we're all banded together, we have the power to ensure that this tax avoiding, lying, racist, misogynist stays away from power and out of the White House, but it requires all of us coming together. So if your favorite KiwiFarmer says things like "I don't like to talk politics on this forum" or "I'm not going to reveal who I'm voting for". Call them out. Sitting on the sidelines this time around is not okay, this election is different. And if this guy gets elected, and you stood back with your arms folded and didn't speak out against them. It makes you complicit, it makes you partially responsible for handing him the reins of power.
All right I'll see you tomorrow for a fun happy post. Thank you for understanding, and thanks for the time

The fact that the Republicans have made no particularly big efforts at expanding their appeal to increasingly larger populations of non-whites is simply another thing that makes headlines like these embarrassing to the Democrats.

They have had a great chance to capitalize on that 2012 strategy not being put into immediate effect but haven't.

Any other democrat could have ran and won easily by 10 points without trying. They self-selected the weakest among them and they could have lost without that groping tape leaking.
