All discussion of the candidates, updates and results should go here

For example- here's a video of Ted Cruz vying for world domination.

Also Hilary Clinton is a crook and nobody should have sex with her.

Discuss

(Note- The title will change as we get nearer the election, previous titles will be archived in the OP)

Any thoughts on the replacement,?

Too early to tell what effect the new guys are having. Although it'd kind of say everything about how Trump's campaign has gone so far if the former chief executive of Breitbart's first action in the job was to say "You know, Donald, I think maybe you should publicly acknowledge that sometimes you say stuff without thinking it through."

He's a Breitbart guy, its not an improvement and likely was chosen because he won't contradict Trump.

American Horror Story: Election

I know it's not MGS-related, but how does that sound for a future thread title?

Jessica Lange as Clinton and the guy who played the tranny from last season as Trump.

Wasn't his polio kept a secret to the point that the president's desk had a board placed in front of its opening in order to hide the fact that he used a wheelchair?
I don't think so. FDR used what they called the Hoover desk during his administration. Plus here is a link to an archived government library's website talking about this photo from 1934.

Time goes further that and debunked the whole conspiracy of keeping it hidden.
Time said:
A 1932 New York Times Magazine profile of the then-Governor of New York described how, at his Hyde Park home, he “wheels around in his chair.” A TIME article from February 1, 1932 said that swimming and exercise “have made it possible for the Governor to walk 100 ft or so with braces and canes. When standing at crowded public functions, he still clings precautiously to a friend’s arm.” Before his inauguration as President in 1933, TIME noted, “Because of the President-elect’s lameness, short ramps will replace steps at the side door of the executive offices leading to the White House.” And a TIME article from December 17, 1934, described a scene in which “bodyguard Gus Gennerich helped the President into his wheel chair, rolled him the length of the West colonnade to the new White House offices.” Another profile, this one in the New Yorker in 1934, stated that “he is almost always pushed to the west end of the White House in a small wheelchair.” Seven years later, on January 20, 1941, LIFE magazine noted that “by 11 o’clock he is up, dressed and on his way in a wheel chair down the long passageway to his office…” (Not that it slowed him down in any way. The headline for the article was “Roosevelt: From Breakfast in Bed to Wisecracks at Movies, President Retains His Bounce after Eight Years.”)
Fun fact about FDR, the reason his face is on the obverse side of US dimes was in honor of his involvment in fundraising to fight polio, in what we now know as the March of Dimes.

Surprisingly, even the mainstream media was somewhat miffed at Hillary (and Obama) today after Trump went to Louisiana and donated a semi full of supplies to people in need while Hillary slept/relaxed and Obama golfed.

Yeah, my friend lives around the flooded area and he's been saying the locals are pissed that Obama and Hillary weren't talking about the flooding. According to him in the past week he's seen an increase in Trump signs in people's yards, and him visiting today will probably give him a boost in Northern Louisiana.

The Democrats did win it as recently as 1996, but it's been pretty solidly Republican since then, so Hillary's campaign probably doesn't consider it a priority. And based on what we've seen so far, I wouldn't lay odds on Trump's campaign being able to turning the situation into a firestorm of bad publicity that might hurt Hillary in the rest of the south.

I am mildly surprised that trump managed to do something that doesn't piss me off. But give him a couple days and he'll be back to insulting the parents of dead soldiers.

I guarentee you that if Obama went to witness the devistation, some dickheads would point out he can just as easily observe the devistation without turning people's suffering into a photo-op.
I remember when the Reagan's were getting shit by the media for going to their vacation ranch's frequently. They all got BTFO by Nancy calling them out by saying a president's vacation doesn't mean you're off the clock.
Another big issue is that the security protocal for a vistiting president could cause rescue efforts to be severly limited. Even the governor said Obama should wait before diverting much needed manpower for security.
So there really isn't a winning scenario here. Get seen as aloof and neglegent, or cripple rescue efforts and still get flack. Things like this really make me glad I don't have that job sometimes.

Hillary called and talked to the Governor and asked her supporters to give to Red Cross at least. So she has acknowledged it, but she doesn't care enough to rubberneck down there.

From what I've heard on NPR Obama asked if it was alright for him to rubberneck yet and the authorities said sure so he's heading down there.

As for the opposite party shitting on the president for vacations, it still happens all the time. Bush got shit for visiting his ranch and Obama gets shit whenever his family takes a vacation.

But doesn't Louisiana always vote Republican? It's not like Louisiana is a heavily contested purple state.
He's trying to make himself seem more "human". My guess is he acknowledges the fact (finally) that he's basically seen as a soulless monster by large swathes of the public. He knows he has an image problem and he needs to work on it.

Too bad he actually is soulless and everyone can see through this crap. Even his attempts at being "good" come off like hollow pandering. America's gotten to know this guy intimately for the past year. Some photo ops before jumping back on your plane to go sleep in your fancy tower isn't going to help him at this point.

It's all a giant charade. GOP surrogates keep going on the news and saying "where's Obama huh!?". Notice they never say what they actually want him to do down there. Same with Clinton. You can be sure Obama's been briefed on that whole situation and the federal government is allocating resources accordingly (though how effective they are at that is a different matter). Other than that the state is dealing with it fairly competently by all accounts. Or as much as one can "deal with" a natural disaster.

Obama is going to go there now because everyone bitched at him, he is going to end up diverting resources to himself (because president), and the situation other than that will remain completely and utterly unchanged.

Donald Trump has made an compassionate call to African Americans to join the GOP, and Trump now predicts he can get at least 95% of the African American vote (He currently hovers around 0-2%)

http://www.politico.com/story/2016/08/donald-trump-african-american-vote-227218

Some choice quotes:

You're living in poverty, your schools are no good, you have no jobs. Fifty-eight percent of your youth is unemployed. What the hell do you have to lose?” Speaking before another largely-white audience in a town whose population is 93 percent white, Trump said, “And at the end of four years, I guarantee you that I will get over 95 percent of the African-American vote. I promise you.

But the winning quote is by his senior campaign advisor

Shortly after the real estate mogul concluded his speech, CNN anchor Brianna Keilar asked Trump campaign senior adviser Jack Kingston why Trump continued to reach out to the black community in rallies with mostly white audiences held in areas where few African-Americans live.

“Maybe it would have been nice if he went and had a backdrop with a burning car,” Kingston replied.
