All discussion of the candidates, updates and results should go here

For example- here's a video of Ted Cruz vying for world domination.

Also Hilary Clinton is a crook and nobody should have sex with her.

Discuss

(Note- The title will change as we get nearer the election, previous titles will be archived in the OP)

Considering the word filter for retard I won't doubt that that's very exceptional.
You make it like this:
retard
which will give you:
retard
Wow, it's looking like Sanders might actually pull out the upset in Michigan. However, before our resident Bernie-supporters get too excited, Clinton's lopsided win in Mississippi means she'll win more delegates today than Sanders even if he holds on and wins Michigan.
This superdelegates shit... If I'd be a Democrat, I'd either stay home or vote for Vermin Supreme.

This is a very significant upset since polls showed Sanders trailing Clinton by over 20 percentage points. Before the results came in, Nate Silver had said that a Sanders victory in Michigan would be "among the greatest polling errors in primary history."

Interesting he'd say that, because it's as if he suspected it. The polls-based confidence for Clinton taking Michigan was well over 90% and those almost never (less than the 10% of the time you would expect) come in wrong.

Wait do people still listen to Nate Silver?

2012 wants its media statistics darling back.

Also trump won Hawaii.

Overall trump is on course to win the nomination. They reeaaly need to stop him next week, at least in one state. That will probably be Ohio as trump's got Florida tied up.

What, you're not buying the Rubio Florida momentum that he's been telling us he has?

Rubio?

More like JEBio.

It's not like statistics stop working or something. He (or rather the team) has been pretty much as accurate this time around as last.

Count the numbers, do the math, and you too can make reasonably good projections as to the likelihoods of future events.

If you add ! to Rubio's name all becomes clear.

That's true but I do think it's funny how Nate predicted trump wouldn't get this far.

Predictions that long before the event are innately unreliable. Nobody in a position to prevent Trump from getting this far expected it either.

That's not a Nate Silver article.

Oops I missed 'team' out

Anyway people are now calling for little Marco to leave the race. Polling also indicates trump holds strong leads in both states.

If little Macro was to go now at least Kasich would have a chance in Ohio.

I guess that's true. Nate's team did write articles like this tho.

http://fivethirtyeight.com/datalab/why-donald-trump-isnt-a-real-candidate-in-one-chart/

idk I just expected more from someone people kept telling me could predict when the next drop of rain would fall.

I took this pretty seriously and probably cited it myself. Some of the assumptions underlying it turned out mistaken, though. For instance, that Trump's high unfavorables would make it a blindingly obvious strategy to choose a strong candidate and circle the wagons around him while attacking.

Instead, they allowed a swarm of nonentities and dunces to do nothing effective whatsoever until Trump built up a head of steam that now seems unstoppable.

I didn't anticipate such utter stupidity and incompetence from the GOP, and I am used to their usual stupidity and incompetence, so it isn't like I was attributing genius to them.

That Trump's only serious competition is a guy even more narcissistic and loathsome than Trump has a lot to do with it.

Honestly I don't even blame them. Some have been much more critical of Nate than i'll be. Nobody predicted trump because nobody understood how defective the republican establishment was.

Some revealing data confirms what I expected. Romney's speech helped Trump.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/.../poll-mitt-romney-helps-hurts-trump/81478380/

a new poll finds that the 2012 GOP nominee’s attacks might have helped Trump more than hurt him, at least with Republican voters tasked with choosing this year's nominee.

The Morning Consult survey found 31% of registered GOP voters are more likely to vote for Trump given Romney’s speech, while 20% are less likely. Another 43% said it didn’t have an impact either way.
“The poll, which was conducted March 4 through March 6, also finds that only 5% of Trump supporters said they are now less likely to vote for Trump,” the pollster said in a release. “And, of those who voted for Romney in 2012, 30% said they were more likely to vote for Trump, compared to 20% who said less likely.”

That doesn’t necessarily bode well for the newest anti-Trump gambit from Romney. He recorded a robocall to be sent to Republicans in four states holding contests Tuesday — Hawaii, Idaho, Michigan, and Mississippi, per the Washington Post:

“If we Republicans were to choose Donald Trump as our nominee, I believe that the prospects for a safe and prosperous future would be greatly diminished — and I’m convinced Donald Trump would lose to Hillary Clinton. So please vote tomorrow for a candidate who can defeat Hillary Clinton and who can make us proud."

The Morning Consult poll found that Trump actually has slightly higher favorability ratings among Republican voters than Romney. The New York real estate mogul is favored by 55%, compared to 42% that rate him unfavorably. Romney is favored by 51% and 41% rate him unfavorably.

Overall, Trump maintains a 17-point lead over the Republican field in the poll. But TexasSen. Ted Cruz has narrowed his margin in the past month. Trump currently leads him 40%-23%. Last month, he led 44%-15%.

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio is third with 14% and Ohio Gov. John Kasich has 10%.

The poll surveyed 2,019 registered voters and has a 2% margin of error.

I don't know why you'd pick a guy whose main claim to fame is being a fucking HUGE LOSER. This is playing into Trump's basic theme.

And of course, the last two "Winners" as Republican presidents were both Bushes -and surely are sore losers because Jeb! lost, so a condemnation from George H. W. Bush or Dubya won't carry much weight, either. Fucking political dynasties.

I think Romney just genuinely doesn't like Trump so he thought he should say so, vocally. I can't really argue with that, but given his very real flaws as a candidate and a public figure I hope for his sake he din't think he was going to make a big difference. The crossover between "People who currently support Trump" and "people who respect Mitt Romney and will change their preferences based on what he says" is effectively zero. The GOP establishment's best spokesman remains Marco Rubio, and we've all seen he isn't good enough.

Well, that and the fact that it would continue to fit Trump's anti establishment angle that made him popular to begin with. It still astonishes me that there are still some people who haven't figured this out yet and still haven't figured out an effective way to combat it. But it's too late now, if Trump doesn't win it will be a miracle from Lucifer himself, because only Ted Cruz can beat him.

TLDR: America, if you want the British to come back and save you from your own system, then I'm afraid that you're on your own.

If I were a Republican, I'd rather vote for Trump. Or just shoot myself.
