All discussion of the candidates, updates and results should go here

For example- here's a video of Ted Cruz vying for world domination.

Also Hilary Clinton is a crook and nobody should have sex with her.

Discuss

(Note- The title will change as we get nearer the election, previous titles will be archived in the OP)

Trump has praised planned parenthood but said it deserves no federal dollars.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...bizarre-relationship-with-planned-parenthood/

The man flip flops on every issue so much that i cannot keep up.

What I'm hoping is that he really has a liberal view on everything and is just confusing the Republicans so that they vote for him because they like how much he yells, and if elected he will actually do the right thing. *rates optimistic*

I am not saying trump is the next hitler. I'm just saying he is similar enough to be frightening. I think this comparison is being taken way too literally. Basically, Trump is fairly similar to a number of shitty dictators and totalitarian leaders, and that in and of itself is something that makes me very uneasy. He may not be exactly like them, but even getting close to that rustles my jimmies.

Santorum is much more frightening, yes.
Really, all the conservative candidates scare the shit out of me. I don't get how it is still a party, especially with our country's supposed "separation of church and state" that they do blatantly ignore.

And as far as Romney is concerned... Jesus Christ the last thing we need is someone in a religious cult as our political leader Mormonism is a horrifying, controlling, and hateful religion hiding behind the veneer of smiles and family game night. Not something we need in office... Ever.

I think the leaders who are most similar to Trump are the neo-populist/authoritarian democrats in power in Poland and Hungary right now.

This whole "Which world leader is Trump most like" discussion strikes me as pointless.

Why don't we just judge him on his own merits?
  • He promotes nativistic policies and rhetoric
  • He advances implausible and ridiculously simple solutions to complex problems
  • He promotes tying a person's ability to enter this country to their religious beliefs
  • He often makes borderline misogynistic and racist comments
  • He makes positive comments about America's enemies (Putin)
  • He makes inflammatory or confrontational comments about America's allies (Israel, Japan, S. Korea)
  • His temperament is that of a reality TV star attempting to grab attention by any means necessary
  • He claims to support veterans, but mocks a war hero (McCain) for being captured as soon as McCain attacked him
  • He often is extremely thin on concrete policy proposals
  • He often seems to have as loose a relationship with the truth as the queen of lies herself, Hilary Clinton
  • He has dramatically changed his positions on major issues like abortion
TL;DR: You don't need to force some comparison to Hitler or Putin to justify not voting for Trump; he provides more than enough reason himself.

I disagree. American politics doesn't exist in a vacuum, and treating Trump or Trump's support as some kind of discrete phenomenon that can only be explained in terms of itself is to reject tools that have real analytical power.

Don't forget the litany of business failures he likes to point to as evidence of his "leadership." If he runs America like he ran Trump Air, the Trump Shuttle, Trump Vodka, GoTrump, or Trump University, then we are in for a world of hurt.

My point is it often distracts from Trump's actual positions, which are the best reason not to support him. Besides, trying to paint Trump as Hitler or Putin strikes me as playing right into his hands, since he can (rightly) paint this sort of attack as desperate, overreaching, and hyperbolic.

It's not that the comparisons aren't sometimes apt; it is that are often beside the point and in some ways counterproductive

I don't believe any government policies are lifting Americans out of poverty.

I know of at least one person where government policies (like HUD, SSDI, Medicaid) are helping to keep that someone OUT of poverty. Conservatives talk about "bootstraps", but what they really use are a bullwhip and a noose.

What I'm hoping is that he really has a liberal view on everything and is just confusing the Republicans so that they vote for him because they like how much he yells, and if elected he will actually do the right thing. *rates optimistic*

If you want to see what Trump as President would be like, watch Back To The Future II (as I implied earlier in this thread) or any dramatization of the reign of Mussolini. A belligerent asshole in public, and possibly a murderous serial-rapist behind closed doors.

Have you ever met people who qualify for those programs? America's impoverished who qualify for those programs live better than the middle class, but such luxuries are meant to distract from an impoverished mind set. To me, lifting Americans out of poverty means getting everyone on their own feet and only encouraging welfare when it's actually needed, not turning it into a career while encouraging the growth of poverty by inviting immigrants to succle America's sweet tits.

Trump's beliefs on any issue aside from his id, as I've said many times before, matter neither to him nor to anyone affected by the decisions he makes. There are times when that can lead to things working out for the best, but that still doesn't mean you should stake your life on it. Nor does it mean that you should reward a sociopath, a crook, and/or a retard the most powerful job on Planet Earth.

I won't insult your intelligence and argue that Mormonism doesn't have a strong strain of cultism within itself, but I'd still say it's open enough to allow actual religion as opposed to culttery. I say this as someone who could write you a book about why it's absurd and I'd never convert to it, but most of Mormonism's not even as bad as the Rastafari.

I don't much like and don't much trust Romney, but I wouldn't say his Mormon beliefs should disqualify him for President, as opposed to someone like W. Cleon Skousen or Brigham Young whom I would say that for.

You shouldn't be more frightened of even religious fundamentalists winding up in charge as opposed to someone like Trump. A politician's actions, policies, and even personal opinions will change all the time; but if the content of their character is rotten itself, that will be the one thing you can count on staying the same the entire time they hold power.

I don't want Rick Santorum to wind up in the Oval Office, and I don't want Romney to wind up in the office either, but I can at least say of them "they could do things that would cause them not to sleep at night." Whereas with someone like Mr. or Mrs. Clinton, and Trump himself, I don't even have to say there's nothing I think they won't do because I've already seen them do exactly the worst possible things any human being could do and not have it bother them in the slightest.

So you're saying that in order for someone to have a good character and morals they must be religious? I find this to be one of the most incorrect beliefs that people commonly hold. Being religious =\= being a good person.

I would much rather have someone in office who questions authority, doubts, and doesn't let a church govern their life because of their belief in some magical deity in the sky.

Mormonism fits the definition of cult, which is a group of people who worship a specific person and are mentally coerced into staying in the group. It's not a happy or safe religion, and is very destructive mentally and emotionally on its believers. It is also extremely sexist and bigoted.

Besides, we aren't supposed to even have church influence any of our political process, but the GOP is happy to always ignore separation of church and state.

What have Clinton and Trump done that was so horrible? I know Trump is kinda a shitty guy and had a stupid reality show, and i don't know anything Clinton did other than some shady stuff with email. What is it you are referring to?

One of the many problems with religion is that it gives people the okay to do terrible things because they truly believe God has told them it's the right thing to do (for example, radical islam). Sure, Santorum may never do anything that HE deems wrong, but because of his religious extremism what he deems just fine may indeed actually be terrible, such as making birth control illegal or forcing people to pray to a Christian god. To him, this is Gods will and he is doing what he should do. But in reality, it is terrible and cruel.

Do you see what i mean?

I do not want a leader who can happily believe in fairy tales and base his entire life on these fables; it is not okay for people to deem what is "right and wrong" based off of an ancient book written by men that they claim is the work of a magical being. It's ridiculous and idiotic.

Looking back, he was always more nationalist rather than libertarian, but it still sucks to see how willingly and unthinkingly The Internet Aristocrat swallowed the Kool-Aid when he heard someone singing a different tune this time.

The prognosis doesn't look good. Nobody who develops skin this thin goes very long without winding up propositioning Jesuotaku and blocking dozens manually on social media.

I'm against hyperbole. I'm a fan of non-hyperbolic comparisons. Comparing Trump to Hitler is dumb. Comparing him to Orban is not dumb.

I don't think Putin is a particularly hyperbolic example. It's not a perfect analogy, but none is.

Hitler is an historical Satan who committed some of the worst atrocities in history. There are reasons why comparisons to Hitler are virtually useless.

Putin is a relatively mainstream Russian leader with a lot of flaws and baggage. He is arguably a terrible person, but so are a lot of politicians. His authoritarian ideas border on fascism, but then, so do the authoritarian ideas Trump is floating. If Trump were elected, he wouldn't be able to get away with some of the shit Putin does, but you could expect attacks on the press, more pointless military adventurism, and other stupid shit that Putin does.

I could go on about this all day. But to be concise, among other things:

Trump

- Has extensive business ties to some of the most brutal gangsters, thugs, and criminals in the history of our nation's last century, including Little Nicky Scarfo and Fat "Not-The-Simpsons" Tony Salerno. Ties which would be unacceptable for a record label executive, and is the kind of shit our nation should've left behind with Big Bill Thompson.

- Is a horrendously inept businessman who'd be living between relatives basements if he weren't the spoiled rotten son of Brooklyn's top realestate mogul. He's presided over repeated failed ventures in spite of receiving millions, perhaps billions, in taxpayer dollars while owning businesses competitors were legally prohibited by force of government -- and possibly Cosa Nostra -- violence in retaliation. No one with his degree of competence should be in charge of anything, or for that matter, allowed contact with blunt or sharp objects. He should be jangling paper cups in people's faces at best.

- Hired illegal immigrants from the second world to undercut American workers and ignore both safety and labor regulations in his construction projects.

Clinton

- Has knowingly covered up and lied about repeated acts of sexual assault, and even rape, carried out by her husband.

- Deliberately torpedo'd military intervention in Bosnia to craft a disastrous healthcare reform bill which managed to combine the worst elements of socialist and free-market healthcare. Leading to the needless deaths of tens of thousands of European civilians. Then two decades later lied about being under sniper fire while on a banal goodwill trip to the region whose people she deliberately allowed to be murdered en masse for her latest short-term political needs.

- Irresponsibly instigated a military intervention without proper logistic support and personnel commitment to avoid short-term controversy at the expense of the long-term well being of a nation rendered fragile by revolution.

Both

- Lie about everything to everybody, both in and out of their circles, at all times.

- Have repeatedly swindled powerful positions and government money in the hundreds of millions to line their own pockets.

- Have on numerous occasions attacked the right to freedom of speech under the guise of public morals.

- Use millions of charity dollars from organizations they both chair and don't bother donating to as both tax dodges and slush funds.

- Play Three-Card Monte with every political position and policy they get involved with aside from issues of their own enrichment.

There's really no need for me to stop, but even the likes of me needs to eat and breathe.

This is exactly why I am hoping that Bernie Sanders gets the Democratic nomination and for the Republican nominees, I'd be okay with Rubio or Kasich, even if I may not agree with all their views. Shitllary Clinton and Tronald Dump are megalovaniac piles of shit who are nothing short of crooks who don't even give a shit about actual American values, let alone Americans.

Sigh.
I wish it could just be Bernie. (:_(
It's possible for him to get nominated, people in what is considered to be more liberal states (especially the younger generation) should actually start considering voting once the primaries come in their states (I am definitely voting Bernie once the primary comes in New York).

A big problem with the Republicans right now is that many are so disgusted with the establishment -- and trust their words so little thanks to years of bullshittery -- they think Trump's telling the truth about everything just because he's upfront about the elephant in the room. Hell, Trump doesn't even actually oppose said elephant. Trump lucked his way into an electorate that he can not only treat exactly like a pimp treats his hoes, but his cultists actually believe the establishment's the one that's gonna get pimped instead.

I've seen men in windowless vans that were less upfront, and they at least had the decency to give you good drugs before sodomizing you and tossing your ass in a creek.
