All discussion of the candidates, updates and results should go here

For example- here's a video of Ted Cruz vying for world domination.

Also Hilary Clinton is a crook and nobody should have sex with her.

Discuss

They both suck. At least Cruz doesn't have authoritarian tendencies. I couldn't vote for either, though.

I don't know about that. I find the whole christian dominionist persona kinda terrifying.

If I had to make a choice (and If I was republican) I would pick kasich.

Something else to consider: Rubio might not crack the 20% ceiling in Texas. He may get no delegates from that state.

I would've posted much earlier, but I've been buried in schoolwork.

I'm still buried, so I'll just get my thoughts out of the way right now.

Yes. As dickheadish as I may sound here, I definitely wanted someone like Trump just to spite all those who groveled at Obama's stupid "Change Hope and Yes we Can!" foolishness. Thing was with those types of words they were not really relevant.

All Trump had to say was "Make America Great Again" to make himself very relevant. "When was it ever really great?" Doubtes ask, well definitely not since GHWB came in to establish his Political dynasty into the White House, for him to vomit all over the place and cause Bill Clinton to usurp him.

I really wish I can time travel to 1979 and get me a Reagan Button, bearing those familiar words "Lets make America Great again!"
Much as I've mocked you, and will continue to relentlessly, I totally get this. The establishment is crooked as hell, and needs an enema.

But no matter how much you'd like it to be true, Trump's not the guy who will do that.

Donald J. Trump is, and always has been; a friend of the rich, powerful, and violent: and an enemy of the working man, the middle class, those who wish to speak their minds, and all else that is worthwhile on the planet. His political positions, past and present, are irrelevant. Trump will never change from being a cruel and stupid lizard, and a caterer to the crooked and the selfish he's successfully fooled you and others like you into thinking are his enemies.

Pretend otherwise if you like. It won't change reality.

The thing is, this, like much of what Trump wants to do, will only happen when hell freezes over. Trump probably knows this as well. Trump will have a hard time doing anything since congress will oppose him just as hard as they opposed anything Obama did. Likely harder since neither party likes Trump.

Setting aside the fact that the presidency comes with profound power beyond what's in Article 2 thanks to the bully pulpit and a media presence bigger than any other elected official, it'll be interesting to see what happens in Congress if Trump's elected. The president does have a huge influence on legislative agendas, but usually as a supporter. He's not popular among Republican establishment representatives and Senators. I wonder what impact that'll have on his agenda, or even congressional politics.
Trump's policies won't be affected by anything other than what's popular at the moment, what's easy to pass in the house, what lines his pockets, and first and foremost what his ego drives him towards. It's literally the exact same thing Clinton did. Promises for the people, hard guarantees for the powerful.

The issue with this? What's popular and what's right are often antithetical. Issues with bipartisan support, such as the college rape hysteria and Lockheed-Martin's F-35, are often in a separate universe from what's good for the country. Trump's a shit businessman who can't even properly manage his own economic issues, much less those of anyone else. And Trump's ego, his only true guiding light, has always pointed him towards evil.

That won't ever change.

An interesting thing about Bloomberg is that he's a 'moderate' authoritarian. 'Moderate' in that his policy preferences are roughly in the centre, but authoritarian in that he prefers to implement those preferences through coercive power. It gives the lie to the idea that 'moderates' are unthreatening politicians.

As an aside, what is it about the NYC mayordom that rewards/produces authoritarians? Guiliani had a pretty worrying big brother streak too.
Oh, absolutely. Hell, fucking Trump is a political moderate on almost all issues, and that won't do shit to make his Presidency anything other than our own version of the Last Days of the Qing Dynasty.

At this rate, Rubio (and Cruz, but I don't give a shit about him) may not even get any delegates in my state. Honestly, at this point, the best the Republicans can hope for is to deny Trump a majority of delegates at the convention and fight it out. That's extremely unlikely, though--there hasn't been a fight on the convention floor for a major party's nomination in generations.

That would be absolutely catastrophic for the GOP and could destroy it, as it would be obviously corrupt, but not in a way that Republicans would actually support.

Tom DeLay, the corrupt former Speaker of the House, though, said they'd do just that if Trump won the nomination.

He sounded like a nut, though, and the interviewer was incredulous. I'd be surprised after his many criminal problems if he has much sway in the GOP at this point.

We can now welcome Clinton to our stable of presidential smileys :hillary:
I wish I could've rated this both "Winner" and "Optimistic."

Honestly? A Trump may have a silver lining, in that it would cause the Democrat and Republican parties to implode. They'd tear themselves apart upon the realization that they lost to fucking Trump. Their vote bases would be pissed, and start actually holding their leaders accountable for fucking this up. We could actually have a chance for reform of this broken, bullshit two party system that's been bleeding our country dry.
Trump is the wildfire that clears out the undergrowth choking the forest. Or burns the whole thing down.
You seem to be under the impression that Trump's populist demagoguery has any substance to it other than cruelty and authoritarianism. He's always been a suck-offer to those in power, and will do whatever they want unless it conflicts with his "Heil, Hitler" heart.

Oh don't get me wrong, It's been entertaining so far.

My grandpa's American. I do worry about what Hillary/trump will do to him :(
Sadly for when shit like this happens, the President of the US affects the lives of everyone in every country.

The Donald's stupidity and cruelty will reverberate in every corner of the planet.

I gotta say right now I would vote for Hillary over Trump.
At this point, I'll probably write in for Kanye West. He's at least a successful businessman who makes quality products who actually came up from a middle class background, and has never had a net worth of negative hundreds of millions of dollars.

Fucking MC Hammer has more financial wisdom than Trump, and would make a better President.

Its sad but the Republican party did this to themselves. Since Bush left office you could see signs of the party fracturing. I think in the next few years its gonna fall apart and be rebuilt again unless a Regan like messiah comes about.
As for the democratic side, I have no idea why so minorities support Clinton when back in the 90s alot of her husband policies led to the ass backwards situations we have now. Atleast Bernie can say he was legit in the civil rights movement.
Reform and revolution have been needed for awhile. I'm actually more disappointed in the Democrats this time around for how thoroughly they've squashed the people's will. Their cynicism and support of Clinton might actually put this hateful fascist fuck in front of the nuke button.

The problem being that both those things can be just as amoral and disastrous as the status quo.

Trump picks up 6-7. Cruz 2 and rubio 1

Clinton picks up 8 and sanders 4

Trump is estimated to get over 250 delegates. I don't see how Rubio builds momentum from this.

@Picklechu What could happen now to keep trump from winning Floridia or beating him at the convention?

Remember when Carson surpassed Trump in the national polls? That seems like a long time ago now.

Only Rubio can compete with Trump in Florida. Rubio has two options: run hard in Florida and risk raising expectations too high and losing; or keep things going as they are (hoping for a victory in Florida) in the hopes of forcing a floor fight at the convention.

A majority of Republicans, polls show, are opposed to Trump. An admittedly very large plurality supports him. 1,237 delegate votes are needed to secure the Republican nomination for President. At the convention, each delegate must vote for who he or she pledged to vote for on the initial ballot. After that, they are free to vote for whoever they want (which could include someone like Paul Ryan or Mitt Romney who is not currently running). At that point, ballots will be cast, eliminating a candidate each time, until a candidate has a majority.

It is possible to deny Trump a majority. However, with his multiple wins, he certainly has momentum on his side. If things hold steady, it's possible to stop him, but that will be increasingly difficult. The "Not Trump" movement is building, though, and there are quite

He's this cycle's Herman Cain. He's running to make money, increase book sales, and things like that.

Someone once described American electoral politics as, "The Stupid Party versus The Evil Party."
In this case, I don't know which one is which.

I read this New Yorker article a week ago but the point of the article is still salient.

Donald Trump Can Be Beaten—But the G.O.P. Isn't Really Trying

Donald Trump has deflected jabs taken at him so well before not because he was truly impossible to put down, but because the GOP never really attacked him where it would hurt. His campaign is all bullshit populism so it doesn't hinge on him being a True Conservative, hence accusations of being a liberal in disguise don't work, nor do his supporters care whether he respects John McCain's war record, and if anything the fact that he's so openly bigoted is his appeal.

The establishment Republicans had the opportunity to displace Trump by attacking his campaign's bedrock, pointing out his various business failures and showing just how little he actually believes in the things he's pushing, but they totally failed to do so and it's too little too late now.

Trumps popularity is so bizarre. I know it's kind of a leap but seriously with his persistent racist douchebaggery an early Hitler comparison keeps popping into my head. It's the angry ranting charisma that does it I think.

Also I know it's incredibly naive but I seriously didn't realize just how fucking racist America still is. Which isn't to say I'm unaware of how big and disgusting the issue has been and still is. Rather him doing so well in the polls has really reinforced the obvious. Humanity is fucked.

It's a go to favorite quote but it's appropriate.

"And crawling on the planet's face, some insects called the human race. Lost in time. And lost in space... and meaning."

Trump's popularity is based solely on his personality. He is big, bombastic and instills confidence in people who really want somebody to be confident in. American politicians are in generally very wishy-washy and prone to transparent posturing. Trump is refreshingly direct, and comes across as completely dominant in just about every interaction he has with the media. He could practically be advocating genocide of dem dirty JEWS with that kind of attitude and still get votes.

The republicans have always used subtlety to stay just within the boundaries of grotesque bigotry, but Mein Trumpf isn't being subtle about it at all. He's gone Full Klansman with the racist card short of lynching a black man on stage while raping a Native American at every rally. The gop "establishment" are totally freaking out at Trump revealing their playbook for all to see, like a magician explaining how other magicians did their tricks.

I've always wondered if by his openly appealing to the stupid aryan-white violent racists out there in the GOP, Trump may be performing the greatest Trolling Saga in the History of Forever.
