Also apparently Mass Effect Andromedia is an "Early Access" game now to excuse fixing it post-release
Because that was the most glaring issue needing to be fixed with the game: a character comfortable enough with who they are that they don't mind bringing up their past as a man. Can't be having that, now can we?
 
The first game studio to put out a game where a tranny character announces their troonocity, followed by a group of armed men bursting through the doors and windows to murder the tranny, wins Kiwi GOTY.

You could make a whole real game around it. Strategically placing your shock troops around various cafes, low income mental health clinics and junior high schools. Picking the right moment, just in case the target is just a normal homo. Points awarded for the most distress caused to the trans community.

Beat the game Sunday. Romanced the Turian chick because out of the entire crew I can only stand her and the krogan. Did not get a poorly animated scene with clipping through her naked body and getting shots of sideboob.

You could romhack Revolution 60 to be all about Holiday acknowledging their manly past and the entire plot of the game is her trying to escape the armed force attempting to kill her for this, while also stopping their plans for firing the anti-gay laser (powered by the blood of Christian Weston Chandler, as stated in the Anchuent Prophecy) and destroying homosexuals by turning them into 100% autistics on the low-funcitoning end of the spectrum instead.

Apparently there was some guy with contacts in Bioware who reported some hilarious shit, so take it with a grain of salt :story:


The faces in Mass Effect use a technology called Cyberscan, you can scan a physical object and/or faces/bodies and import them into the game engine. The thing is, Cyberscan is only meant to be used for a starting point. That is, you scan the thing in and make adjustments, because it isn't perfectly replicated. It is there so people don't have to start from scratch when they model something.

Bioware's upper management solely relied on Cyberscan technology and ordered the artists to not waste time. Instead, they decided to outsource all the humans/human-like aliens to EA in Romania. They were not touched by the in-house teams. The in-house teams were only allowed to do hard surfaces (ships, buildings, guns, armor, etc.), backgrounds and certain alien characters. The best part:

They were not outsourced to save costs. They were outsourced because Bioware upper management did not see the need for their in-house team (the ones making the fucking game) to oversee and polish human assets and animation (you know, 90% of your fucking game). Artists/modelers who came to them to ask to actually do it (probably because they looked like shit and were worried) were turned away, because the guy in charge didn't think that human assets and animations were a high priority. Basically, all of them said that it wasn't the fault of artists or animators (like that cosplay chick) but Bioware's fucking mongoloid management team who apparently have fucking brain damage.

One of the sources said that it might have been due to sjw shit, (both in Bioware and EA) as in they didn't want to make the models too pretty. There is a corporate culture of political correctness and there are sensitivities to make models 'realistic' (unattractive) and not too 'unrealistic' (attractive) so they didn't alienate 'normal women'. They wanted their models to be like 'real women'. I guess Jayde Rossi isn't a real woman anymore. If you are pretty, you have to turn in your woman card at Bioware.

So to sum up: Management so stupid it thought that what was basically raw mo-cap data not touched by anyone in-house was ok, facial animations are not a priority in an interactive game where you talk to people for long periods of time and intentionally beating models with the ugly stick to make them more like 'real women' and 'inclusive'. What a fucking shitshow.

Unrefined 3D scanned models can arguably exceed artist quality if you have good equipment and know what you're doing, Smithsonian X 3D (not for mobile/old PCs) is a good example of this. EA could easily exceed this quality and scan together a database of varied and photorealistic scenes and props for the game, and possibly others.

I just don't understand why did they spend so much money and what for to have everything done so poorly in a relatively long time. You'd think a project like this would come out of a very strich budget with a very small team like it happens for many indie games....did most of it go to the advertising?

While a scanned-in model may exceed the quality of a human produced asset if it's used as a static object, it likely won't animate well, or at least will use vastly too many vertices. If you want good results you still need to at least retopologize the model, which is basically just recreating the object's shape with a pattern of vertices and faces that suit how it will move and bend. I'd be really surprised if they didn't do this for ME;A, but maybe they just tried to automate that too.

Every time I read a Dobson tweet I can only think of that one PlebComics piece where the woman is telling Jon McIntosh to shut up, but poorly scribbled out and replace Jon's name with Dobson.
In that case, you should see the tweets where plebcomics directly calls Dobson out on his shit. And corrects his art(he got super pissy about it).
