I pointed this out on the Brianna Wu main thread, but I want to highlight it here too, and expand on it a little: she actually said, "Remember just how terrible the first 15 hours of the first Mass Effect were."
First of all, "the first 15 hours" is roughly half the fucking game. Mass Effect 1 ain't that long. If you're not doing a thorough playthrough, 15 hours is way more than half.
Second of all, and more importantly, this strikes me as exactly the sort of incredibly strained argument defenders of the Star Wars prequels occasionally make. "Hey, the original movies also had cheesy writing and wooden acting!" I'm entirely open to the idea that the criticism of Andromeda is overblown and that once I play the game myself I'll end up loving it. But the fact that a hardcore ME fanboy like Brianna Wu is already reaching for this painful argument makes me think that, yeah, it's as big a disaster as it's being made out to be.
