Item descriptions are the most efficient way to deliver small, optional, exposition dumps on the player. At some point, a story teller has to explain their world some how, you cant realistically communicate every single detail purely through diegetic means with out pissing off and boring your audience to death. If every piece of world building has to emerge naturally through dialogue or environmental story telling, it would be boring as fuck. So you either just hide that lore from the player or you never bother to begin with, Settings feel more immersive when they don't feel like they are constructed for the plot that's currently happening, an entirely diegetic fueled story would have to cut out all the little things that make a world interesting.

Just read Unveiling and ignore the whole Witness debacle. Horrible retcon of good lore.
Them retconning the Fallen from clans of degenerate tech worshipping psycos to "just some immigrants who need help guys" will always be one of the lore changes that I will never forgive them for.

The fact that we are admonished for defending the planet they invaded is astounding to me. They tried the same shit with the Hive but pivoted because they forgot that they made them so evil that redeeming them wouldn't really work.

Them making Saint 14 and Osiris gay lovers is also a retcon that pisses me off, I remember some idiots who couldn't get off Bungies dick loving it and getting mad at me for pointing out that the relationship doesn't work if you used D1 as a reference. Since Destiny 1 has Osiris and Saint refer to each other as brothers, with the Speaker as their adoptive father.

Bungies butchering of the lore for that game is just fucking heartbreaking. Because there is some genuinely great shit to be had in the Destiny Universe, but Bungie couldn't help themselves.

Them doing the same to Marathon won't surprise me.

I can’t see how those are different at all, they also aren’t digetic unless they are what the character is thinking in which case they could both be diegetic.

what are you seeing that makes them opposite?

And boy how! The Hive has, by the lore, Wiped out all known life except the races present in game, and likely in ways you can only imagine.

The reset is sunk cost fallacy as they insist they can survive being just like more successful extraction shooters, despite the fact it'll probably just kill the remaining interest to play their soulless game more.

The far funnier part is that they're basically throwing everything they can at the wall to make people start playing right now.

Guaranteed keys, guaranteed map events, the retard pvp map open every day instead of just the weekends.

It won't be enough, but we may see an uptick of players so blast havers can say Marathon is saved.

the knowledge level of the narrator and the player and how the friction between them drives the narrative forward. you, the player, don't know anything. the game has to do a careful balancing act of you not knowing anything and not beating you over the head with exposition.

in cruelty squad that friction is resolved through details that explain that there's a lot of depth to the world that the player character is aware of but the details of it are unimportant. "what is a combat pancreas?" it's standard issue for assassins in the world of corporate espionage. through the lines, you can glean that there are metabolically enhanced assassins, and the assassin industry prefers them that way. lotta depth of world building in one line

What the fuck are friggle sticks? ok obviously they're food, but you could figure that out because the item says +10 food. What is a friggle? why do they make sticks out of them? Who enjoys them? why? Questions for the sake of questions, not for the sake of implying an answer. Its the kind of shit you would expect in Starfield. Wow, Food Sticks! I Sure Love Food Sticks! Everybody Loves Food Sticks!

Also, Tarkov doesn’t do resets anymore I think? They only “reset” because that’s when they would implement new updates while the game was still pre 1.0

Hunt Showdown doesn’t reset, neither does Delta Force’s extraction mode, or Arena. They all let you stockpile your shit. Retarded fuckin’ trannies man.

Interestingly, in last few years Destiny had few fag characters (Nimbus, Micah who is trans) but most beloved characters from new characters is Lodi who is just white seemingly straight (of course not, it is Destiny after all, but not as faggy as Nimbus) man.
Years ago, I noticed that the game was almost entirely lacking in heterosexual relationships that don't end in tragedy (Crow/Amanda, Zavala/dead wife) or have something else wrong with them (Clovis Bray's relationship with his wife, parents of a kid who was the PoV of a lore entry being racist against the Fallen, Drifter having a thing for the Emissary's former identity, etc.). Gay relationships? All over the place! (Osiris/Saint obv, the Bray sisters having unnamed girlfriends, Micah's Two Dads, Mara trying to hook Crow up with one of Uldren's gay lovers as soon as Amanda has been disposed of, Awoken society in general). There's Drifter/Eris, I guess, but it took them forever to do anything with that and I don't know whether they did anything to ruin/destroy it since I stopped after Echoes. And some gender stuff goes back pretty far, there was a lore entry in Forsaken about the gender distribution of the Awoken in the Distributary, something like 2/3 female, with the remainder split around evenly between male and "otherwise."

They could have so easily just invtented an entire slew of new contracts that further develop the story.

I was cringe enough the first time having to wipe an entire lobby, to break into pinwheel, and then asking the team to ignore everything they worked so hard for so we can run over to flight control all because I have a Sekiguchi contract.

"Yes i know you risked your thermals and purple shields, but i need you to Ignore the purple and gold loot, let the rooks have it, i need to get over to flight control. No I cant go by myself, I'll get gang banged by a pack of rooks."

I havent played tarkov much in 1.0, but i believe they have a sort of account reset/optional wipe mechanic. I think Hunt has the same thing.

Not sure why you'd ever do that, but some do. Tarkov tasks are total time wasters and are not fun.

Speaking of Tarkov they are instituting the shared task mechanics of Marathon, so the tasks will be less fucking dogshit or total aids.

honestly this is more about uhh some immersion venue attempt, how it works is per player sure but it doesn't make the approach attempt any less valid, it works for some people but not for others, there's a reason they try even if some people think it's "cringe"...
