(2) cheating on arc raiders is out of control and nothing is being done about it. bungie seems to take cheating way more seriously so now i'm rooting for marathon to do well enough to keep embark honest. I suspect they'll get a year to turn it around - Bungie isn't too big to fail, but it would be a massive embarrassment for Sony's management to give up and liquidate Bungie, so they'll try to keep Bungie alive to save their own necks

We've got that
Sadly that technology has been lost to the distant year of 2011. Modern developers can only guess what technical marvels primitive studios used at the time.
 
Game just seems uninspired beyond its aesthetic choices. They could've so easily named it anything other than Marathon and I think it wouldn't have caused a stir. Even the cribbed design from someone else, it's just dull prefabs but in CHARTREUSE!

Chivalry 2 is just that and still has an active playerbase with lots of new ppl coming through. Not just getting helmet or armor knocked off, also dismemberment! Nothing more fun than having both your arms cut off then head butting ppl to death.

It's a shame it's so chaotic, the characters dies so quickly too, I noticed that in Battlefront 2 reboot your character, even the heroes, get covered in mud and receive subtle visual damage, it frankly looks good on the clones and it's nice to see your character's faded paint armor appear in the final cinematic.

Cheating doesnt matter in a pve game, the uncs arent leaving for marathon.
 
Considering these two pics can summate the collective personality of the old Bungie fanbase which is white and politically incorrect and very heterosexual, I will hold my views that all the poz in nu-marathon is ideologically driven and will tank Bunghole financially and they know appealing to the old crowd would make profit

There is nothing Bunghole trannydevs fear more than custom games called Fat Kid, or infection modes called Detroit where a bunch of brown zombies swarm you in a map made in foundry made to represent the ghetto, or going into matchmaking and getting called a nigger by NiggerHitlerHolocaustXxxX1488 for using the needler or armor lock with 1488 as their tag and a vagina as their emblem

Even in MCC that 343i tries to scrub and censor you will meet those kinds of people playing Halo CE or Halo 3 and will spell out Fucking Jews on the wall with the assault rifle when they inevitably disable voice chat for "toxicity"

Even in D2, there were tons of clan names like Registered Vex Offenders, or user names like Saggin' Redrum, and the players didn't care.
 
Lore update for those who are interested:

One detail that stood out to me is that there’s reportedly no mammalian life on Tau Ceti IV. Aside from plant life and the parasitic ticks, everything else is avian.

The anomaly itself was initially believed by colonists to be some kind of timed WMD left behind by the Pfhor. However, one scientist proposed a different theory that the anomaly may actually be a planetary scale immune response to an infection (the colony). He suspects the existence of a massive, planet wide fungal colony.

Another scientists attributes a lot of the strange happenings to a mass delusion.

The strangest reports come from some colonists claim they feel called to the anomaly’s ground zero. A few say they’ve seen long lost loved ones there. Others report being threatened by enemies or bullies urging them to go. There are even accounts of lights guiding people toward it.

The colony decided it was safer not to keep digging. Eventually, the colony suspended all research into the anomaly. The area was quarantined, a curfew was enforced, and personnel were relocated to other sectors.

Still there are those who are refusing to abandon their research.

While doing the dirty work of the many factions I am reminded of DUNE, where the major players arent necessarily friends, but are entirely reliant on each other. There is a set of missions where Traxus is trying its best to proceed through legal channels to partner with the UESC on some research, but under the table is having you do wet works to speed things along and gather what information you can find while they negotiate.

That whole fungus thing sounds a lot like the egregore from D2, a physical manifestation of Darkness specifically tied to memory. There have already been scattered Marathon references in Destiny, so I wonder if they're going in the opposite direction too.
 
I'll eat a bit of crow, and admit that the drop today was not nearly as big as what I was expecting. However, turns out the console numbers for marathon are ABYSMAL, so if at any point the steam numbers drop severely and don't recover, it's basically dead without any other lifeline.

Is there a way to look up player counts for consoles? Considering a lot of bungies fanbase is gonna be on PS and Xbox, I wanted to try and find a number but couldn’t. Granted I didn’t look super hard before just going on SteamDB.
