It's funny you praise this because everyone bitched endlessly about ODST being $60 on release.

I guess it just shows how willing people are to take it up the ass now. $2.50 Oblivion horse armor looks so quaint anymore.
I'm going to get shit for saying this, but ODST should have been an expansion. I like Bungie games, but I'm not going to suck based™ trve aryan old bang yee cock for developing my precious halo.
Halo 3 ODST was a very expensive halo 3 story mode expansion.

Everyone has a favorite Halo game among the original trilogy so I'm not hostile to differing opinions

I met Halo diehards who have said Bungie fucked up big time on Halo 2 and had really in depth explanations for it

Its still not enough to break even with their budget, it probably will be kept on life support and not go down but its a failure considering a fucking card game outsold it and free to play Halo mods had faster growth and player counts
I never said it was going to break even I just said it would probably hit 70k today.

the MIDA Multi-Tool was a gun FROM Marathon's universe that slipped into Destiny 2's Universe through space dimension hopping.
it makes perfect sense that its in this game, at least for this specific gun.
Fuck I didnt know that at all. I only played a little bit of og marathon.

it's free... you can play the rest...
Bungie seems to have lost the institutional knowledge as to why they used lowered crosshairs in their FPS games. They kept the single vanishing point on the models but stopped lowering the crosshair, so now half the screen is covered by gun model. Destiny 2 still has lowered crosshair so the knowledge was there in 2017 but sometime between then and now they forgot the reason they did it.
D2 builds itself from D1 which is from the 2014's, big guns for you to look at your skin was the real shit back then because COD MW's that steemed from 2009 ish.

fucking troongle recommending me the modern gay shit when i was specifically looking for the OG ones, total marketeer death couldn't come soon enough.

Even the best ones like WQ are bad.
The best story moments and lore moments were usually lore tabs, or just emergent gameplay moments. Things like the Calus reveal at the end of the Leviathan raid, All of Last Wish, Deep Stone Crypt (especially the crypt AI using the voice of Clovis Bray excoriating you throughout the raid). I will say the reveal with Savathun and Traveler during Witch Queen was very good, but it was partly ruined if you skipped the final cutscene of the previous season since you missed some of the context with the worm removal.

Never forget they killed Sagira off-screen, for no reason.
I've never had experience with this. This seems like something a minority of people would do and not tens of thousands. The battle state launcher just has nothing to offer the player.
To play the game on steam, you had to buy it again. Most people did not choose to buy the game on steam again, just to say they were playing on steam. The fact that they had a ton of people buy on steam at all is shocking.
Can someone please explain to me how the absolute geniuses who spent literally millions developing this game, somehow failed to implement a duo queue? Did they know that they would barely have the player numbers to support solos and trios?
Originally there was ONLY trio que. During the closed alpha, you could party as 3, or turn off squad fill and go in solo vs teams of all 3. Rook (the pseudo scav character) didn't exist. They were only added after massive backlash during that test. You can tell it isn't balanced since solo que isn't balanced at all, and no doubt the actual Marathon map won't even be playable if you are solo.
And I'm not even talking about the insanity that Infinity reached, I mean not even managing to reach the level of Marathon 1's story.
All the talented Bungie writers left years ago. I think Shadowkeep is the last time they had any writers with any talent at all, everything after that is mostly bad with a few moments of good.

And that's what makes nu-Marathon all the more depressing. Again, I really haven't looked too deeply into what sort of story the game is giving you or how it's delivered, but just going off of the surface, the core of the story seems to be how the UESC and the corporations it contracted cut corners with the Tau Ceti colony, because, y'know, corpos bad. Haha, isn't it wacky that all the food is in pouches? Anything for a profit! Despite surface-level references to the original trilogy (most prominently Durandal's "escape will make me God" line), it doesn't seem like they're even bothering to do any kind of deeper story. And I'm not even talking about the insanity that Infinity reached, I mean not even managing to reach the level of Marathon 1's story.
The dadaist art direction would have been redeemed if they were betting everything on a cosmic horror storyline. Think about it, it shows that the world isn't built for the humans who are supposedly conquering it.

funny how slay the spire 2 launched on the same day, and actually increased to 520k players on saturday like you would expect
meanwhile marathon actually dropped to 78k on saturday
bit sad innit

People will still be playing StS 1 & 2 for years, long after this turd dies (even if they leave it on life support for years for a thousand die-hards). The StS devs have to feel pretty good about that.

The good stuff was largely contained in lore tabs and supplemental material, largely conceptual stuff like the Gardener and the Winnower and their game. The plots have always been mostly trite (the two twists in WQ were probably the only times I went, "oh, that's neat"), and the dialogue laughable. Lightfall was an absolute nadir, though, holy crap. A city that's just Reddit and the worst "quirky badass" character that was clearly some tranny writer's perfect special baby.
