Like the subtitle said, It's not a ground breaking game but it is scratching an itch for me with it's 2.5D visuals and progression system inside a combat driven platformer. The story is written by Brian Mitsoda who played apart in Vampire the Masquerade Bloodline. That story had alot of the foundational material already developed, Mitsoda spent alot of time on the mundane but captivating content like many of the characters and their quests, dialog, and side content in the game, such as emails.

I think his involvement is what's most intriguing because good writing typically falls short in modern games and games living or dying based on gameplay not writing.

I'll update this OP after a couple of hours to let y'all know if it's worth the 40$

Update: I've played it for 5-6 hours now and can comfortably say it's a safe bet if you're looking for what the subtitle describes. It's world building is feeling more like Silksong with the map exploration. The game feels better to play than Salt Sanctuary mostly due to a better overall aesthetic and really well done voice acting. Music is a stand out and I really gotta hit on the voice acting again. This game feels more like a AA game and the writing is not marvel tier slop. Character lines feel believable, not cringey.

Combat is sidescrolling style but I find it a comfy way to play games versus needing the open world cut and paste combat you get with so many other games. One thing I thought was interesting is there are mechanics that encourage good platforming that I'm excited to see if they expand the concept further. No spoilers but knowing how hazards work and getting through the platforming quickly is being built upon.

Overall not a waste of 40$ and if the genre just general piques your interest than definitely pick it up on sale.

Forty dollars? And mixed reviews on steam due to the EULA selling user data? You are gonna have to shill it harder OP if you want me to part with my money. I love metroidvanias but they gotta be rock solid and people here won't abide shady bullshit from the devs.

Obvious advertisement. Be subtle lol
I wrote this while drinking and just am enjoying the game lol I didn't see a post here so I wanted to see what others think.

voice acting and music are definitely the draw at the moment. The combat is expected but the game is animated in a very pleasing way. gameplay the structure is definitely more comfy than the usual experience given the genre.

I think anyone who wants to advertise like this can do so provided they establish sufficient street cred by posting the most racist things they can think of in the Thunderdome.
I hope I've accrued enough myself for if I ever wrangle up a project.

Was kinda enjoying this game before I met Ket - Lord of Dykes. I was hoping this game wouldn't be the typical dark fantasy story of "dood did yuo kno that the church is like.... corrupt and uhm evil. they have like money and there's people starving... crazy right?".

I'll let you niggaz know if the gameplay is any good.

As I have said in the past, you can always see this shit coming a mile away. It would legitimately be subversive if the Church equivalent was treated with respect in a game like this.

Blade Chimera pulled the same shit, in the same genre, not even more than a scant few months ago!
