A pencil-wielding Albuquerque man was arrested at the University of New Mexico on Tuesday night after allegedly punching a female student who refused to give him money.
Brian Lee, 19, is facing assault charges after punching the student in the forehead, according to a criminal complaint filed in Metropolitan Court.
The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the campus’ “R” parking lot near the Coronado dormitory, a UNM spokeswoman said.
According to the complaint, Lee followed two female students as they walked to a vehicle. Holding a pencil, he approached one to say he needed $20. She said she did not have the money and also noticed he smelled like alcohol. He “raised the pencil and demanded” $20 and when she once again refused, he punched her in the face, the complaint states.
After the second student ran from the other side of the vehicle and told him to leave, “he produced another pencil” and stepped toward her. She sprayed Mace in Lee’s eyes.
He stumbled away and the University of New Mexico Police arrested him without incident, according to the complaint.
He was charged with attempt to commit a felony and aggravated assault.

A man is accused of attacking a person with a Japanese sword on an Albuquerque city bus near the intersection of Edith and Montano NW Tuesday.
A Bernalillo County sheriff’s deputy was called to the location at about 4:30 p.m. after a bus driver reported that a male was wielding a machete, according to a criminal complaint.
When the deputy arrived on scene, he saw a male “bleeding severely from a laceration from left eye socket and also bleeding from a laceration from the left ear (lobe),” the complaint states. The deputy also noted seeing a “heavy amount of blood located on the front of his jacket.”
The bus driver told the deputy he was driving east on Montano when he heard two males having an argument. He pulled over and moments later, the driver said he noticed a man, later identified as Brian Lee, 24, pull out a “Japanese like sword” that was still in its sheath. When he ordered Lee off the bus, Lee and the person he was arguing with got into a physical altercation and Lee was pushed off the bus, the complaint says.
That’s when Lee unsheathed the sword, ran back on the bus and charged the victim.

“Once back on the bus, the offender swung the sword with the sharp side facing (the victim). The sword connected with (the victim), causing the severe laceration to the left side of his face,” the complaint states. Lee then left the scene, the deputy wrote in the complaint.
While deputies attempted to locate Lee, a supervisor arrived to the scene with surveillance video footage.

“In the video, I can clearly see … the offender connecting with (the victim’s) head which caused him to drop to the ground. While on the ground, the offender lost control of the sword by swinging with so much force, it caused the offender to (lose) grip and drop the sword,” the deputy wrote in the complaint. “After the sword was on the ground, the offender still intended to hit (the victim) on the head, so he began to strike (him) on the face/head multiple times with his closed fists.”
The video shows passengers breaking up the fight and Lee exiting the bus, the complaint says.
Deputies eventually caught up with Lee, who had blood on his hands.

According to the complaint, Lee attempted to give them a different name and date of birth.

He was charged with aggravated battery against a household member causing great bodily harm and was booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center. It is unclear if he has an attorney.

Court records show that Lee has previously been charged with aggravated battery on multiple occasions, including in 2018 and 2021. He has also been charged with battery upon a peace officer previously, including in February of 2022 as well as in 2017 and 2018, according to court records.

This is why we need to outlaw mechanical assault pencils with military-style features like semi-automatic "click" (bump stock) reloading, bayonet-mounted erasers, and clips that hold more than 5 leads.

You'll take my Kura Toga from my cold dead hands and even then you'll probably have to take my whole arm with it because I'll never fucking let it go.

That's it. I'm forming the National Pencil Association to protect my right to have dangerously sharp german made automatic pencils.

Honestly, I was thinking feather not dot.

First thought: It's a fucking drunk Navajo isn't it? Maybe a Pueblan from Acoma.

After reading: Lee!? What the fuck? No, that's way more surprising in New Mexico.

That dude's as Indi'n as they come, don't let the name fool you. I've known a couple Navajo Lee's. They're partial to multiple first names.

To be fair its pretty easy to kill somebody with a pencil if you know what you're doing. They're popular shanks in prison because of it
