Holy fuck this one sentence alone summarizes the subtext of tens of thousands of pop- and fan culture (war) related blog posts and articles so succinctly, it needs to be framed.
Even lots of posts on this very website fall under the same shitty paradigm where any sort of enjoyment is treated as degenerate and immoral when it's straight, but excused or idolized when it is some form of gay.

There is a truth about ships in pop/fan culture that I'm tired of people coping about, not just on reddit on twitter, but even 4chan and bunker boards. Yes, a ship is inherently more wholesome if it is straight. In fact, gay ships are inherently degenerate and if they involve minors, they're outright disturbing and delusional.
I generally feel like deep down, everyone has always known this, but there has always been this mantle of shame cast over the notion, barring people from creating or engaging in something like this in a meaningful capacity, and it took a spark that resonates with people from both sides of multiple aisles, in order to break through.

Eh, I’d say the issue is that some of the ships don’t ever bother to even try and consider the character dynamics. Harry x Draco is just the same as Naruto x Sasuke where it seems it’s all about how quickly they can get to the fucking instead of realizing how one of them wouldn’t want to be in the same room as the other person. Or something like Guts and Griffith where one wants to straight up kill the other.
Meanwhile, Harry x Malfoid is classic tsundere shenanigans that can lead to a relationship like Arnold and Helga from Hey Arnold!, or lead to some kind of platonic friendship, or just be some kind of odd thing like Shinji and Asuka from Neon Genesis Evangelion.

There's nothing dumb about suspecting a corporation is using social media or internet memes to signal boost a property they want to sell to as many people as possible. The difference is whether you suspect that for obvious reasons or if you insist it's definitely happening because you're LGBTQ bridge bait.

Because we know why they made the change. It wasnt about improving the story or making an alternate story that is positive. It was pure diversity points and rubbing their nuts on societies face to let it know the left is in charge and they can do whatever they want.
