The more I learn about Harry Potter lore the more I'm disappointed in how Rowling was so uneducated about history. In the time it took me to smoke a cig I had already come up with a pitch for a Cold War era spy thriller in the HP universe. Imagine a WWII era series with SS wizards.
The CIA kept trying to use prostitutes to dose the American mages with LSD and it really set the program back. It's a good thing their soviet counterparts kept sending all their good magic users to gulag or we would have lost the magic space race.
I’m pretty sure Rowling wasn’t thinking of whatever it was you want to pitch. Just some simple wizard story at a magic school in a castle.
I think that was always the case. Then there’s the folks who just go “JK Rowling always sucked” as if they need to convince themselves they’re not just going by some kind of social instruction.
That’s a lot of words to talk about a ship where the desire is to see two rivals hate fuck.

Some people just want to be bitter. They have grown old, not just in body, but in soul. They threw their toys away, but acted like nobody would ever pick them back up. Spiritual boomer mindset.
I know about Rowling from a more academic perspective, when I was on my book writing/publishing arc. Yes i saw the movies with my sister when i was a kid, but it was when i was really into writing and navigating the industry that i learned about her. She is an anomaly. She basically ran through every publisher and agent until she got back to Scholastic, who accepted her. I do not believe she went through the agent pipeline, which is... fucking insane. She was directly negotiating with the publisher. Her personal story is honestly inspiring to any upcoming writer, though its one in a million.
Glowie wizards are terrifying concept when you get down to it. Iirc the killing curse doesn’t leave any trace. The victims are perfectly normal and healthy. The CIA and KGB would work overtime to put that into a gun. Wizards are capable of turning everyday items into portals, so imagine they turn your keys into a portkey to a black site in God knows where. Forget prism, we have NSA wizards.
I mean i know why they call them that, Im talking from a narrative perspective it just feels like such a shallow way to make american wizards "different", when they haven't really changed anything fundamental, it just feels like a wasted opportunity
