One of those just opened near me. well, there goes my :tugboat:
They've got a nice large NYX selection which is one of my favorite drugstore brands. Right now I'm in love with the Margarita lipstick and their Licorice butter lipstick. Their butter lipstick has better sticking power than my MAC Media one :\

Have you tried the Pacifica mascara, @Mourning Dove?

I actually don't wear much makeup at all. I'm too low maintenance and lazy to even try to put on a full face of makeup everyday. Though so far my "gateway" products have been tinted lip balm and that lipstick I just mentioned. But anyway the reviews I've seen of the Pacifica mascara (there are more of them out there because this product has been out longer than the lipstick) are mixed. Sorry if my insights on this product are limited. :(

Of the eco-friendly mascaras I know about, the one I found with the best reviews is the 100% Pure Mascara. It's not gluten free, however.

Hey there!
I went through most of this thread, but is it okay to ask for advice?
Anyone else so friggin' pale they have to use brown eyeliner and mascara? Anyone have any brands they recommend? Pale makeup in general? I'm almost always the lightest or second lightest shade in foundation. (:_(

I'm not that pale, but I prefer brown eyeliner because it looks less harsh. I use this one pretty much every day:

I'm pretty pale myself. Even though I'm half-Chinese, my Caucasian dad is so pale that he has blue eyes, had red hair, and has freckles. I have yellow/warm undertones in my skin. What undertone is your skin? And what style of makeup are you into, natural or more dramatic?

My mom has red hair and freckles as well, but she tans well. I am relatively warm in my undertones, but exceedingly pale; my doctor told me I should basically not be out between 12 and 4 during the day without any sunblock.
I am usually more into the natural, but it would be nice to learn more of the dramatic.

It's a coincidence that you are half-Chinese, I have a friend who is as well, except it is her father who is Chinese and her mother is Scottish. You must be absolutely gorgeous!

I'm a HAPA too but I ended up with the warm Macanese tones. I also started with the natural looks to kind of get a feel for what I liked in applying makeup. If you want to try going more dramatic I like to play with gold/brown smoky eyes with a touch of purple or burgundy in the crease. Pencil liners (especially ones you can smudge a bit) are good for avoiding the overly harsh lines of a liquid.

Took me until damn near 18 to learn how to do eyeliner right though. I use a Rimmel Soft Kohl in black and accent it with a felt-tip liner. I've also had good luck tightlining with this one, @Kitlen

It's soft but not so soft it smushes everywhere. I used to like Urban Decay's 24/7 liner but fuck if I'm spending $20 if I found something I like just as much for a fraction.

I order YSL Touche Eclat from Strawberry Net today. I've wanted to try it for years and i've heard so many good things about it but never got around to getting it. I'm a big fan of cheap BB cream with sunscreen in it and a good concealer for daytime wear, instead of a full face of makeup. So hopefully it works out well.

Argan oil is an amazing skin moisturizer in cold, dry winter months. For face, hair, hands, everywhere. I've been in love with this stuff for years, and have recently converted my sister over. However, it's gotta be fair trade, cold-pressed, 100% pure argan oil contained in dark-colored glass bottles. None of that Organix, Agadir, or overpriced Moroccan Oil bullshit; those are just full of silicones and artificial fragrances, not the legit stuff.

I have issues applying anything that winds product through a brush (read: I am an impatient asshole who keeps forcing the clicky/twisty thing and ends up with product everywhere) but that was a top seller when I worked at Bloomingdale's. I tried it every now and then and found the coverage to be really nice though I myself use either Benefit's Fake Up or Erase Paste.

@Sanic those are some nice boots. Are they over-the-knee? I bought these Fryes a couple years ago when I still worked at a department store and thus received a generous discount.

They actually go over my knee, unlike some other brands. :heart-full:

EDIT: I MEANT @rocket there's so many sanic avatars and I can't remember faces and (:_(
Those are really nice!

I saw some super pretty over-the-knee boots a while back in a storefront but when I actually went looking for them to buy them they were gone. It sucked, because they were affordable on top of being super pretty.

New goodies.

(Urban Decay is thooo pigmentit!)

@littlebiscuits, did you happen upon any horrors while purging expired makeup? I had a lipstick of indeterminate age snap in half and have all the staying power of crayon on my lips a while back.

Yeah that Revlon tube was ripe! Ewwwww. I also found 13 cents. And I found a tube of blue lip-stain that I don't remember buying. BLUE ! I don't even recognize the brand. So that's exciting.

Edit: it's true

Have you ever heard of this brand? I haven't.

mmm Urban Decay

I love my Naked palette so much.

Also are Ciate polishes good? I ordered one recently to add to my 100+ collection of nail polish

Oh man they are crackaliciously good. I usually buy China Glaze polishes so this is my first pricy (at $15) one in a while. This is the first Ciate I've ever bought for my collection but when I worked at Bloomingdale's you bet I tested the shit out of them. I worked a position where I pulled merchandise and found that they held up pretty well to digging in shoeboxes, climbing around in stockrooms, etc.
The one I got is called "oil slick" which is a nice gold/green duochrome much like its namesake. I was not a big fan of the Caviar polish treatments because it felt like I'd just fucked up my nails with poppy seeds (and was as bad as a chunky glitter to remove) but the colors and pigmentation are great. I'd say that I would feel good with 2 coats of Ciate since the formula seems really consistent.

tl;dr, A+++++ WOULD BUY AGAIN

@littlebiscuits I have never heard of Pavolva but you brought me back to the days of being a 10 year old who dressed like a raver all the goddamn time. Limited Too and those comfortable nylon pants with expandable zippers and eyelash sweaters and blue lipgloss. The drugs hadn't even entered my system yet. Nothing like a hit of frosty blue lipstick to bring out the yellow in your teeth.

Oh, Limited Too brings back such painful memories for me. I was an early bloomer, so if I wanted anything from there I'd have to squeeze into an XL even though I wasn't overweight because most of their tops weren't made to accommodate boobs. It's hard enough dealing with being a preteen without that shit. (:_(

I remember very briefly wearing this lip gloss from a pot that was pink and blue swirled around that age. It mostly just made me look cold and diseased, but I think YM or Teen recommended it as an "awesome frosted look," so I gave it a try.
