This has been suggested before in various threads here, but I wanted to make a post highlighting this request. One of the best parts about Kiwi Farms is how much content there is on the website, but it can be hard to find older stuff that may be interesting. I get that Kiwi Gold sponsors are meant to remedy this, but there are only so many Kiwi Gold subscribers and most of them probably have more recent posts they would want to use their sponsor on.

My solution that has been offered by other users and is already used by other websites: a "Random Post"/"I'm Feeling Lucky" option that takes you to a random post anywhere on the site that is accessible to you. The benefits:
  • Improve discoverability of older, niche threads
  • Takes you to parts of the site you may not usually go to (similar to sponsors)
  • Possibly find some funny ancient gems
  • Could lead to OP rewrites (my first OP was a rewrite of these old and niche threads after all)
  • If you want to theme it you could even name it "I'm Feeling Autistic" (EDIT: or relate it to BossmanJack)!
Thoughts?

I'm torn on this one. On the one hand, it's exactly what I want myself, especially during slow periods. On the other, it risks necroing a lot of threads, and unhelpful "hey any updates?" posts from tourists.

If mods don't care about the necroing, I don't see a downside, and plenty of upside for discovery and engagement.

This makes me wonder if it would be as much of a problem if it simply leads to more threads being active. That is, potential low quality posts leading to a disproportionatly higher number of useful observations/people checking on what the cow is doing.

Perhaps if it were rolled out to the site in general and caused problems, it could be restricted to T&H people to filter out some of the trash.
 
Get the total number of posts on the site, pick a number between 1 and that, and then link to https://kiwifarms.st/posts/(number)/. Shouldn't be hard for Jersh if he feels like making it
 
I think this could be cool. Maybe only link to highlighted posts though? That would probably increase the chance of finding something interesting more often.
