Edge of Eternities has potential imo. Astronomy has tons of big and cool stuff to pull from.
EoE has zero potential. It's going to be pure campy trash. I guarantee you there will be an equipment card that's just a lightsaber, and another equipment card that's a phaser (that probably taps creatures and puts stun counters on them, because WotC just can't help themselves). There will be X-Wing and TIE Fighter and Starship Enterprise vehicle references. There will probably be a blue bounce spell that references transporter/teleporter accidents. There will be a sweeper that references the Death Star blowing stuff up. There will be an uncommon draft signpost legendary creature that's "Darth Vader But Legally Distinct". It will be an endless stream of lowest common denominator sci-fi references done in the most on-the-nose way possible, a goofy and forgettable mishmash of cards that exist solely to remind you of things you already know in an attempt to nudge you into Consooming More Product.

People expecting EoE to be like Space the Convergence are either living under a rock or are willingly blind to the current state of WoTC.

Alot of people don't remember just how cool and hyped WAR was. They didn't just have cross planar build up sets, but a two set Ravnica block that was fun to draft. Leading into it. You knew the Gatewatch was going to win, but Gideon dying came straight out of left field. You had every Planeswalker from the past 10 or so years along with famous characters showing up. It was essentially the Avengers Endgame of Magic. Everything past that actually just feels like the MCU stage after Endgame.

It really felt like MOM was trying to capture that again, but it couldn't because the Player support wasn't there. Nobody was invested in the actual game and the story that made it special.

Yeah. War of the Spark at least had a fair bit of buildup to it (Easily since the Tarkir block) so it felt like there was weight to it. It was their apology for the wet fart of the Jacetice League mercing the Eldrazi titans and it showed

It helped that Ravnica 3/War came off Ixalan and Dominaria, the two better written sets in the cycle. We had Jace manning up with his full set of Memories and Training and telling Gideon that Liliana was a fucking Thot, we had Vraska as a secret double agent. Really the build up to War was really good, even though the Gatewatch story started rough. (Even the Killing of the Eldrazi titans made sense in context if you actually paid attention to what Ugin was describing and ignored the Retard way he described it)

It is just that War of the Spark itself turned out to be a pile of trash Lorewise, and Gameplay wise was the Start of a bunch of really bad design choices as well as the rise of Arena and Magic the Gathering being a T O P F I V E E S P O R T tm.

I'm not saying WAR was the best set. WAR was a mid-set for limited and really didn't have much of an impact on standard outside of tefer3.

But what WAR did right was inspire consumer confidence in the product. It was the end of an era, a novel set that had never done anything like it before. That drove demand to the point where multiple print runs were required to keep up demand.

That type of marketing wasn't seen again until Neon Dynasty, and the draft pack/collector pack dynamic really fucked up consumer confidence in half of the product(draft packs) which is a shame since NEO was one of the best limited formats I've played.

You are correct though for design choices, WAR was the start of booster fun in a way. The Japanese planeswalkers were kind of premium, and I really want that Amano Lilliana alot.

So for those curious, there were tarkir leaks.

You're probably right. I stand by the notion that it has potential, but I'm not optimistic on WOTC realizing that potential and not doing exactly what you've just described.

So we are just gonna have the Clans back with no explanation beyond "Phyrexian invasion" aren't we? Cause that Sultai Deck looks like it is being lead by Tasguir..whose corpse was being used a Jewelry by Slimgaur in Fate Reforged...

Edit : Calling it Now, Jace is gonna use the fact that Sarkhan fucked with time to try and restart the multiverse or some stupid shit.

Lore exists to make you get excited for new product, now they don't even need lore, they've got crossovers!

Well, the dragonstorms were how the dragons spawned. In the OG timeline Ugin's death meant they stopped and the dragons died/were killed off. So if Ugin is out of the picture (desparkening?) combined with the body count from the Phyrexian invasion, the same thing could be happening again.
