Start Your Engines is just another type of Impending effect except you still get a creature and just have to wait for it to get better. However it doesn't use counters so there's currently no way to manipulate it. Unless they start showing cards that do.
I'd say it's exactly the opposite. Impending cards get used by slow grindy decks as a way to get around restrictions (Keruga Fires) or using abusing Enchantment tribal or Blink cards you were already going to play ( Keruga/Yorion fires, Zur Enchantress, any deck with Beanstalk).

Basically Impeding cards are a win con for decks with inevitability and Start You Engines is supposed to give inevitability to aggressive decks that probably won the game on turn 4 anyway. There's maybe a chance they could see play in a 8 rack style deck or something but for the most part they seem weaker then other cards you could put in your deck and just win the game with.

Okay.

I mean that thing is 3 more mana, the haste is nice but a cycling ability that draws you a card and makes something bigger is much better than the shitty ass on hit ability
That's what I'm saying, I was comparing it to Dreadmaw at first, but it's a rare that's better than most mythics. I kind of see it as a staple in green going forward.

The only thing interesting about that card is how inflated they can make the rate on 5 mana draft rares without any risk that someone will cast them in 60 card constructed.

Gishath is good in low-to-medium power commander in dino tribal but that's it

Uncounterable protection spell with combat trick potential that draws you a card isnt interesting?

So now we're making the planeswalker spark a commodity. Sure. Why not. I don't even want to think about the rules headaches this can cause. (But one will probably still go in my Syr Gwyn deck.)

I hate this so much. At least her alt art is better.

What deck in constructed wants that? Holding up 3 mana is too expensive for Scales, it's too expensive for hollowed one, it's too expensive and with irrelevant upside over the many 2 mana landcyclers it's already not running for living end. If it was 2 mana it would still be too expensive for them. Decks that care about protection, care about cycling/filling the graveyard and care about +1/+1 counters are 3 distant circles on the venn diagram and leaving up 3 mana for a protection spell is a non-starter in constructed even if it cantrips. If it was 2 mana I could MAYBE imagine it being playable in a tempo deck like Murktide but they don't really want to splash green anyway.

I don't know where it would fit offhand, but I think both halves are above rate.

I would like to note that we had a similar argument about Mosswood Dreadknight.

Edit : Finished the Plot today.

This Jace is being EEEEEEEEEEEEVIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL plot is fucking retarded. We are playing the motherfucking "The characters just won't talk to each other." game which is double stupid with Jace because HE IS A MIND MAGE HE CAN LITERALLY EXPLAIN EVERYTHING IN UNDER A HEARTBEAT!

I don't know where it would fit offhand, but I think both halves are above rate.
Creature half is above rate but is still 5 mana dies to doom blade, cantrip is worth less than 1 mana and Snakeskin Veil sees little play at 1 mana, so I would strongly disagree that "trample" "hits uncrewed vehicles" and "has to be stifled" brings G2 to above rate.

I would like to note that we had a similar argument about Mosswood Dreadknight.
It's mid in standard, fringe playable in pioneer, and unplayable constructed everywhere else and would disappear entirely if Shelly got banned. I don't think my argument was that it was even unplayable but that it was the second best 2 mana black 3/2 that recurs itself from the graveyard with a 4 mana loop and draws a card along the way in standard which might have been a little unfair just because I was undervaluing paying in installments while you do something else for 3/4 mana (like cast Shelly). But holding 3 mana in every format except limited to cast Optskin Veil is basically just casting a time walk for your opponent in any of the decks that cast creatures they want to protect.

It's mid in standard,
Nah, its not, I play the Golgari deck and Mosswood is the second best Creature in the deck. I would say it is the best card advantage engine in the deck but Unholy Annex is busted.

fringe playable in pioneer, and unplayable constructed everywhere else
This is true for the majority of good cards, and that is only true because they don't have decks to fit in. If there were reasons to play Golgari instead of Rakdos as your black X deck Dreadknight would be a staple of Pioneer. It is most certainly a better card than Bloodtithe Harvester who rides on Fable's Coattails.

would disappear entirely if Shelly got banned
There was a period when Golgari didn't run Shelly at all and still ran 4 Dreadknights. So them being playable has nothing to do with that Spider legged cuntbag.

But holding 3 mana in every format except limited to cast Optskin Veil is basically just casting a time walk for your opponent in any of the decks that cast creatures they want to protect.
Or you attack see if they block, if they do you can cycle and even if they remove the creature you are giving a combat trick you don't go down a card because the cycling trigger and the Counters/Trample trigger are seperate things. Like For the Golgari Aggro Deck...its probably a better card than Questing Druid. Especially because it doesn't Prevent Damage so you can hit a Screaming Nemesis with the cycling ability post blocks, keep your Nemesis and still get it's damage Trigger.

That's the whole plot of the expansion. A bunch of former Planeswalkers trying to get their Spark back while also fighting off other legendaries who also want it. No idea why Chandra's in the race unless she's there to give people hoverbikes
I hate this so much. At least her alt art is better.

Much better. Should have done the Megan Fox pose from Transformers though.

What looks more pathetic painting over Chandra's tits or tracing Akira? So far based off of the main set if ya'll care about commander that much Exhaust cards are looking practically good in Agatha, even though they activate once per commander game you should have Temur Sabertooth and you could utilize it readily in every instance. Now the Esper Commander deck is just bare bones zombie tribal but it's alternative commander will likely see use in some bullshit because it creates a tapped 4/4 that's a copy of a discarded creature if you pay Propaganda's mana cost. Meanwhile the Energy Commander shall be referred to as Brown Girl Military Complex as that's what it literally is.

Mendicant Core, Guidelight is likely going to be a commander I build around with this set.
Same.

Start Your Engines is such a mismanaged mechanic, holy shit. There's zero indication anything will care at 1, 2, or 3 counters and there's no way to downshift or any risk/reward. Typical modern MTG design failure.
