As a side note, I didn’t realize that there was a secret lair drop today, and after looking at it I’m not surprised. They’re really running out of ideas, because it’s more anime shit and ANOTHER hatsune miku drop. When will wizards cater to the real gamers out there and make a Bossman SLD??? I want my Kino Gamble with a Rat on it!!
It seems like the speculator bubble has burst, because its now three days later and the only Secret Lair to sell out was the Peach Momoko Foil Lair. The Chucky lair is so lazy I hope it all goes to landfills, same with the Real Ghostbusters one. WotC needs to hire real artists to do Universes Beyond products for a change.

Basically now that WOTC utterly fucked the pooch on Competitive 60 card formats for a decade.
It's hard to overstate how bad they fucked up Standard during the Jacetice League arc with no real change in design philosophy.
Modern is a ridiculous clusterfuck whose metagame evolution is driven almost entirely by Modern Horizons sets soft-rotating the format (and then bans cleaning up the most egregious cards).
Modern Horizons ruined Modern and there's no denying it.

If you want to make the argument that certain problematic tutors should be banned then sure, but sacrificing every colour's identity and limiting them to only lands is absolutely retarded. Red tutors through random discards and tribal synergies, blue is great at finding spells, green specializes in creatures and lands, etc.
He means literal tutors like Tiamat or Tinker not "tutor methods." The colors had distinct identities long before all the tutor cycles got released and they'll still have identities if they were gone.

There is a logic to it depending on what you think the goal of a singleton format is. If a format is restricting card count ostensibly with the goal of making each game more distinct when playing then banning fetching for all but land would fulfill that.

It's the difference in decks between "my deck has one game winning combo and the rest of it is devoted to seeking that out" vs "my deck has many game winning combos in it, let's see which one I draw into first today!"

No one ever really liked Standard
I like standard for the exact reason you say people don't like standard.
I like rotating formats. The best time in standard is immediately after rotation where no-one knows what's good anymore and there's 100 different decks.
I'd love a format that was a random rotation of 4-8 sets every 3 months (with an active ban list that got rid of blatantly overpowered stuff if it ever popped up) that had more players than just me and maybe 2 other weirdos.

Now give me my dumb and autistic stickers.

And now they took the biggest problem and multiplied it by infinity by making every set a 300 Card set and now moving back Rotation.

I am sure they won't have to power creep hard to make new sets relevant in a standard with 4,000 Cards in it...

Look, they had to add all those cards to make sure they had room for all these great and very playable constructed and limited cards like the chase rare leyline that lets you play Atraxa for WUBRG instead of 3WUBG

It also helps that if you have a circle of friends Commander makes for a good chill game night.
It's also a good time to use the precons, though it does seem that every time those come out there tends to be one popular deck, two about even and one that is sat in the corner sobbing.

Suppose that's a good one. What do people think are the most balanced set of Commander precons?

Precons are okay, i am working on a deck of evey color combo that are aiming to be on an even powerscale for hang out nights

After another day of testing I have learned that I am really not a fan of that Satoru/Unearth Oculus deck that Dack_Fayden07 built. I really hate how it plays and it just was not putting up very good results.

As a consequence of this, and trying REALLY hard to not cave and sell my playset of Oculus before the prices crash (they are up to 51 tix a piece right now...I bought them at 14) I decided to try out the card as less of a "combo" piece and more of a Murktide stand-in for more creature oriented decks.

Where my main gxs Death's Shadow list runs 3 Detective's Phoenix, this experimental version runs 1 phoenix and 2 Oculus. It is really, really good in this build. The rapid cycling of the deck through Death's Shadow staples like Street Wraith and Bauble ensure that I have 6 cards in the gy almost every single time by turn 3. hell, this is the same deck that basically ensures early game delirium in like 80% of cases.

I think this is the future of Oculus, not as a 4-of "combo" piece, but a 2 to 3-of finisher in creature decks to fill the type of role that Murktide would in his deck. People are trying so hard to weasel it out right now but for straight tempo it is NOT bad. I know plenty of Death's Shadow builds run Murktide, and they suffer for it by having to run much less critters. Unless you are playing straight dimir with counters etc., having oculus is 10x better for the zoo strat. It's surprisingly good in Shadow. The amount of times I have manifested dread and flipped a game-winning Frog or Shadow the next turn is pretty significant. The list can probably even run less spells, but I like having at least 1 drown in the loch and at least 2 bolts, which are probably the ones I'd cut first.

Pretty neat turn 3 for a jank deck:

here is the positively unhinged list:

yes that is indeed 11 lands. it NEEDS Brazen Borrowers if it wants to be competitive in the slightest, but I just don't have any at the moment and don't wanna spend 10 bux a pop for a playset right now. This total abomination frequently sees insane turn 2 plays, but as with all decks like this, it is a mite susceptible to graveyard hate. The great thing about this though is that Huskburster is "in exile"...so I can drop a couple back to back easily, even through gy hate. Huskburster synergizes with Oculus well. Subtlety exiles MDFCS/Secretkeeper. I have just been playing it in Open Play for right now but will try in tournament practice some time soon, probably after I have a hold of those Brazen Borrowers. It doesn't look like it should work, at all. But somehow the mad threats it can drop just keep coming, a lot quicker than you'd think.

If grief was still legal this may actually be a little busted.

Bonus card for the new Hatsune Miku secret lair. I don't know anything about Hatsune Miku, but this art is so ugly I just assumed it was the artist's self-insert and not a real Hatsune Mike-adjacent character.

Nope, apparently Meiko is a real character and looks like this:

Fire all MTG artists.

t seems like the speculator bubble has burst
The speculator bubble in Magic was one of the most retarded things on Earth and they get what they deserve. I'm not even opposed to speculating on cards or collectables, but the mean and method in which they did is so brain dead retarded it's shocking that they don't drown in their own spit.

I really agree with you.

I happened to find out Dominaria Remastered had some updated arts.

What's the card's original art?

The new is just.... awful. And almost exhibit A of how soulless LLM art can be compared to human made. (I'm not accusing Mila Pesic of using A.I. art - just that their piece there looks exactly like what you would expect a LLM to generate.)

The issue is that she's showing too much skin. Magic's creative is run by pink-haired feminist gender blobs and low-T "men" and they react to women in attractive clothing exactly as you'd expect. You can see it in the Radha redo too, covering up her torso because otherwise problematic people might crank one out to them washboard abs and we absolutely cannot have that. Also, most of the art they redid in the Ravnica remaster was to either cover up the women more or replace a piece by a no-no artist.

It's all so tiresome.

I’ve been thinking about the art all day and just looked at it again. They made an anime woman look like a tranny, and I don’t know if that’s on purpose, on accident, or to serve as further proof that dear sneeder has the best view on anime (even if I don’t want it to be so).

Every artist except for Magali Villeneuve and the Anime artists should be replaced by Terese Nielson and Seb McKinnon, If a troon or soyboy gets uppity about those choices then we should convince JD Vance to send right wing death squads to kill them.

I also like Wylie Beckert

The midriff is the most obvious cover, but then you convinced me to go back and look, and they lengthened her sleeves and gave her knee-high boots as well! Got to cover up those arms and gams, gents!

The whole current SJW nonsense has done more to convince me than any historian that the victorian and puritian fads must have been driven by women. "Look at that slut showing her ankle."

EDIT: Oh gods it's even worse on the tomb raider thread! I'm going to start claiming that big boobs and bare midriffs are my kink. Then scream at people for kinkshaming me.

Women's worst enemy is other women.
