I wish I could figure out how companies became so convinced eggless wine aunts were the future as far as serving customers go.

When wine aunts are in charge, guess who you cater towards.

On the replies have some gold.
You only like those because many show the difference between humans and mindless automatons is reducing by the day.
I would enjoy an Eternal Champion set (Michael Moorcock books, not the Sega fighting game).
You were right up until the (
I know that's an unfair assessment given you're stating a personal preference but the Eternal Champion game was very silly and would actually make for a fun MTG set since it's fairly close to TORG in how the setting works rather than a stable timeline where all those settings could coexist.

If we're talking silly sets, I could go for some Inferno Cop.

A fine choice.

Honestly anything that made it into Sonic the Comic could work as a MTG setting. Eternal Champions I already said, Kid Chameleon but instead of a video game some manner of collective dream state for a plane and of course Mutant Football League.

But that would require Wizards trying harder rather than just slapping a few more abilities on a statline already considered undercosted, making it mythic rare and calling it a day.

I have more fun in Standard making janky B-tier decks and trying to beat meta trash rather than playing the meta because of the power creep. It's more likely I can get friends to play me if I'm not playing meta, too.

And when my jank beats meta, the salt is pretty awesome.

I blame tumblr for that one. A lot started to latch onto the IP that didn't care about the game and WotC pandered to them rather than write a good story.
I mean...the plot hasn't been good since The end of Time Spiral.

Eggless Wine Aunts in HR hiring other Eggless Wine Aunts for Marketing.

Ravnica + Time Spiral was one of the most fun Standard metas, even with all the power creep. Narcobridge and Dragonstorm, U/b Permission rocking Teflon Beats, Boros Weenie, Orzhov Discard, there were so many wildly different decks that were playable.

But the plot? I think the plot from Time Spiral had something to do with Back to the Future, I am pretty fuzzy on those details.

Time Spiral was the..several major planar disasters on Dominaria and explosions having consequences and The Old-Walkers had to give up their Godlike power to Fix the fact that Domiaria having a major Planar level explosion every 1000 years or so was gonna cause the Multiverse to collapse.

The only version of Teferi that fills me with glee:

So I remember Teferi doing that, I think Chandra did as well since she was a mainstay in the Madness deck, but Teferi got people to scoop.

I think the books had stopped coming free with fat packs in Time Spiral. Probably why I stopped reading them.

  • Teferi shows up on Dominaria to try and fix his oopsies because the multiverse is about to go all DC comics.
  • He manages to close up one rift by completely sacrificing his power and spark to seal it. Ok, so we got a solution. Now we just need more planeswalkers.
  • Teferi starts gathering a merry band (including Venser) to go around and convince other Walkers to do the right thing and save the day.
  • Some agree and do sacrifice their power to seal things up.
  • Jeska says, "nah I'm gonna try something else", grabs one of the new potential walkers (Radha) and figures out she can close rifts by channeling power through Radha.
  • Eventually Teferi's like, "stop being such a cunt, you're killing her" and Jeska's all "ok, I'll do it right this time" then seals up a rift.
  • Now Bolas shows up and is all "lulz, you a weak mortal now, Teferi. Guess we'll never find out if you can challenge me." but then Leshrac appears and is all, "I'll take you on, you little lizard."
  • Best part of the book, Bolas & Leshrac duel. Worth reading if you can find a page.
  • Leshrac thinks he has the dragon dead to rights then Bolas is all, "PSYCHE! I've been faking my life total this whole time like a true Grixis player." He uses Leshrac to close the next to last rift before vanishing (to what we'll later learn is setting up Amonkhet and War of the Spark).
  • The last rift gets closed (it's the one by Jeska) and everybody lives happily ever after wondering, "hey karn had a freakout when he sacrificed to close a rift - should we check on that?"
It was definitely the best change to the status quo they had done in any of their story.

Nope Chandra was born Post Mending, you are thinking Jeska.

This was during Shadowmoor..when they just stoped printing books..I would say that is when the Plot went bad..but The Llorwyn/Shadowmoor plot was fucking garbage.

It was Jaya:
Who was involved in the Time Spiral Block?

No that was Jeska, who died sealing the Time Rift she created when she transformed into Karona.

I remember hating the Ravnica plot, so it is plausible I was giving away the Time Spiral books.
First two Ravnica Books are good..Last one is insane trash in the best way.

I am talking about the card in the Madness deck I remember, not about the plot. Since I didn't read the books, I am not trying to be an authority on that.

Oh the Madness Deck, I have no fucking clue there is so much product I have no idea what came out when anymore

Scars was the last "true" book.

Lorwyn cycle had a book for each set.

Following that were the PW books.

Alara had 1 book for the entire block.

Zendikar as well.

Then they started doing e-books. R2R was the first.

Yeah I don't count those, you can't tell the story of a block in one book.

Then they started doing e-books. R2R was the first.
I don't count those either because WOTC being too lazy to put shit on paper shows they didn't care.

like R2R is the first real instance of the lore being abjectly awful and lazy (Them outright Retconning how Ravnica works and undoing the ending of the First Ravnica Block)

I'm pretty sure they still came in fat packs because I hadn't read any of the books after Apocalypse but ended up reading Time Spiral as I got one in the fat pack and continued to read some of the older books I missed. I didn't read Lorwyn though.
