Its a shame the ruined jumpstart, the original set was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed just playing it. I didn't give a fuck about the value, it was a cool idea done well (outside of the supply problems). Then they took another golden goose and turned it inside out to look for where the golden eggs came from.
It depends on which Jumpstart. Jumpstart 2022, not to be confused with Jumpstart Dominaria or Jumpstart Brother's War, is the same philosophy as Jumpstart 2020. Whereas the other two jumpstarts have essentially zero value and are plummeting down to zero, Jumpstart 2022's price dipped because it was expected to be more of that shit, and then boomed up once people realized there was (some) good shit in there. Here's the full card list.

It honestly has less value in it than Jumpstart 2020 and Jumpstart 2020 is cheaper because of overprinting to make up for its low original run, but it's not a worthless product. JS2022 is somewhat over-hyped but not embarrassing, and the 'anime card in every pack' bullshit will ensure that some slice of the playerbase always wants it, for whatever reason.
I just don't want to deal with shit like Enter the Dungeon, Day and Night tracking, Companions, and stickers.
Within a set playgroup, these usually aren't that bad. The person who brings the Initiative / Dungeon / Day-Night cards brings tokens to track their own progress and pass around for other people to do with intitiative/monarch, reminds them of the triggers, etc. In 99% of cases, the only person who cares about day-night and dungeon will be the person playing it, so if they miss a trigger, that's their loss. I have yet to see anyone playing with the godawful un-set cards (this one seems vastly less popular than earlier runs, which had more generally fun and interactive card designs than haha! clowns!!!! haha!!!!! space clowns!!!!), much less the sticker bullshit, and even companions, within a set group, are acceptable if a sure sign that you've got a munchkin.

It's when you're playing with randoms that these things become extremely onerous and tedious to deal with, really, because you'll often get people who fuck up continually, don't bring enough tokens to track shit, and generally behave like speds besides the mechanics. Not a fun experience, really.

When its friends and family magic can be fun. Just use glass beads for the tokens. I like the Slivers and think that they could have single handedly held back New Phyrexia. Its a damn shame nothing was done with that block for over a decade now.

However I will never play with someone who abuses the rack and the black vise ever again.
That faggot rightly wound up in the hospital when playing with the person that came in after me in the dorms after I left. All these banned cards. Why not those two? You can literally not play the game at that point with more or less than 4 cards in your hand. They also put some sorcery to make them hexproof and my deck had no board clearers. At least slivers take a few turns and some luck to set up properly.

A bit off topic, but since Rudy is a big personality in MtG I think it fits. I have nothing against the guy and find him entertaining, but I also just view him as any other youtuber, they're all shilling some dumb shit. What's interesting is he had a few special promotions not long ago and here's how they've done:

- Rudy Gem Keeper for the Flesh and Blood game, it was sold at 1k$ to patrons, and came with a special bonus of giving you special discounts if you were the original buyer. These cards now sell for about 500$ for the whole kit, in some cases graded but might be trending up. The bigger thing though is that he has discontinued the special discounts, which were supposed to be for life, because Flesh and Blood no longer prints sets the same way? That doesn't seem to make sense.

- Rudy released a 6.9 year anniversary box for something like 700$ and it was supposed to promote the three main games MtG, MetaZoo, and Flesh and Blood. He claimed it was going to be a fair value and not a boom bust lottery. The product was formatted to have some special Pins and Dice in the top layer, which is a fine throw in, the second layer is supposed to have 3 slots one for each card game, and the third has some random stuff.

So far from what I've seen the second slot is always the same promo from Meta Zoo (Rudy's Nice Medal) and it's down to 50$ish on eBay with some going even lower, then there was a cheap Flesh and Blood promo as well as a blank card that might be scribbled on, and finally what appears to be a random collectors pack from Magic. Some people did get a redemption code which lets them get something like a bunch of MetaZoo playmats or a case of the Un set (not Unfinity, the one of precons I think).

The third layer mostly seems to be a MetaZoo Rudy Claus promo which is a few hundred dollars, and some random junk packs, promos, or secret lair packs.

From what I've seen most people seem to get about 2-400$ in value which is a beating.

I don't get why people continue buying products from social media influencers, if it's not just an outright scam like Established Titles, it's usually just crap value. Supposedly similar trash repacks have been made by other content creators in other games, and I think Tolarian was involved with some at some point years ago.

One of my main problems with Arena is if you do the same action too many times it ends up in a draw.

Had an incident where I was playing my Urza, Prince of Kroog historic brawl deck and the only option I had at the time was to use his copy ability and I used it on Power Stone Shard for the majority of the game. I kept top decking lands and I was hoping to draw into something useful.

To play devils advocate here, any time something new comes to the market there's always a race to the bottom to try to make a quick buck. Based on what you said the kits are currently worth, it seems like it wasn't too bad of a deal, especially if he was marketing them as "this is supposed to be for fun, with hopefully a fair amount of value for the price". I do remember him saying something like "There aren't going to be huge bomb reserve list cards hidden in the kits so don't expect to pull a bunch of dual lands" or to something of a similar effect.

Maybe its just Stockholm syndrome where I've just internalized the idea of spending $100 on a sealed box of cards that when opened, yield $50 worth of cards.

The FaB discount thing still seems weird but I don't know anything about it so I'm not going to defend that.

It's definitely not a complete scam, but it's one of those products that's obviously bad value.

I'd also argue that it's a bit different than cracking a booster box and while he advertised it as not having huge swings in value, because some pins had redemptions for cases of product (any pin ending in 69 was linked to a specific case of something) it did make it swingy. Also because part of the kit was composed of sealed product, it should be easier to make the value more consistent as sealed product tends to be more stable than random cards.

Though speaking on the topic of sealed product, despite him being mostly a Magic channel all of the value was in Meta Zoo promos pretty much, and the Magic section was usually something like a pack of double masters and then a couple random collector packs or a cheap secret lair. Considering the price of the kit and a lot of the value being in the promos he probably got for next to nothing, he really should have busted some vintage boxes as getting a pack of Stronghold or Mirage would probably make people much happier than getting a pack of Double Masters.

Just seems like it was a very poorly thought out item that reminds me of the 30th Anniversary thing because of the poor execution.

Yeah...the only remotely good/interesting thing that came out of Magic 30th was the secret lair. Having 30 different cards in the style of the past secret lairs, each one being an allstar card from the year in which is originated? What a great idea! Plus its like an advent calendar for christmas! Wow, and its $150? A little pricy but overall not that bad.

...and then they fucked it up by having a very limited supply, not having separate foil and nonfoil edition, and of course the website being absolutely fucked to shit during the sale. Also apparently the prices of the cards in that SL are largely trash as well LOL

On topic: Rudy didn't become a cardboard millionaire by giving away his cards. I guess thats why he lowballed the value of the kits huh? You'd think you'd want the value to start at $700 and have spikes up to get people hype right? Ah well. I don't have that kind of money to waste anyway.

Good will goes a long way with the community, and with a celebration product tied to your brand you want it to be good as if it's really crappy it can sink a brand as we're seeing with Magic.

The thing is, is that he wouldn't even have to lose money to make it a good value for buyers and it would function as way better advertisement if people got amazing value, instead it looked like people were quitting his patron program as a result of how many of them got incredibly low value. What I mean is that 1-300$ dollars of value is tied to the Rudy MetaZoo promos, which were probably free or incredibly cheap for him so he's already starting way ahead. If he really does have all this vintage product he bought ages ago, he could probably break down a couple boxes of old sets, as each promo-box would need 1-2 packs, and considering the promo-box sold for 700$ per and he sold a couple thousand boxes, it's not hard to actually make money if his cost basis is so low on those vintage boxes, and imagine the hype of people getting a couple of those packs instead of an Eternal Masters pack and then a pack of each of the Return to Ravnica, Gate Crash, and Ikoria or some other junk that can be found at every LGS.

I just think if you're in a unique position like him or Wizards were, where you can create a lot of good will, hype, and still make a profit, you stand a lot more to gain than if you make a crappy product that is mostly a disappointment. I haven't seen anyone come forward yet and claim they got a good box that broke even or pulled more.

Bump, as Magic Arena players were treated to a Christmas gift of a whopping 10% discount on a whopping 5 different packs, with the discount being valid for only ONE of each pack, and only one of those packs is Standard legal:

Speaking of Arena, I actually uninstalled it recently. I just found that it wasn't fun because of how shit all of the formats were and it feels like too much effort to pay attention to whereas auto-battler type games are easy for a second monitor. I'll give the next expansion a shot, but I'm having a really hard time seeing at how they fix the current game, because maybe it's just something not meant for online play as all of the bad aspects are amplified significantly when you're not hanging out somewhere and have other options to pay attention to.

A funny thing has happened over on speddit.

Some content creator a few days ago on the bird site decided to deliver a disclaimer about using the word tribal in one of his videos, which spawned the predictable old circlejerk of hugboxing and fun-poking. The fine potatoes over at r/freemagic made a post about it that's actually very funny and the comment section is worth a look if you need a laugh.

Guys, there's a huge leak of the upkoming set. Somebody just dumped like half of the rares.
There are many, but this one is my favourite so far
Norn's

formerly Karn's
And separately from that, amazon listing spoiled face commanders from the same set. In Portugese.

Are you kidding? Check out this sexy gal!

So, I got started in the game around the Scars block. The art is alllll wrong on these leaks. Like, virtually unrecognizable from how everything - everything - looked in Scars. This shit is like Steven Universe goes to Mirrodin. It's bizarre, because the Brothers' War felt like a return to actually giving a shit about the game's unique aesthetics.

I was going to joke that they’re making the plane blacked like they do everything else these days, but I realized it isn’t even that. We had plenty of that the first go around, and I honestly think they aren’t doing enough gore for the body horror of the phyrexians. It’s that or they’re using too vibrant of a color scheme and not playing off how dark (visually) things should be when dealing with the phyrexians.

Glissa looks pretty good. Can't wait to use her for EDH, her and Tyvar will go nicely with my Elf deck. Skrelv, Defector Mite should be a lot of fun. Kind of iffy on Mirran Safehouse. Kaya continues to be trash. Malcator, Purity Overseer a Phyrexian Elephant. Sure okay than, seems a bit useless but need to see more of the set. Mirrex is another way to bring in more mites. Why does white have so much Toxic? Is it because it's white? That's racist. Geth just shuts down weenie decks.
