This mainly comes from people who have only seen Verhoeven's film or completely misinterpret the book for the sake of conforming to their own worldview.

You have no idea how much complete and utter disdain I and many others have for Paul Verhoeven. He deliberately butchered the movie because he didn't like the book. He cannot think outside of the current political paradigm and cannot foresee any other systems than the ones that currently exist. With that said, the most accurate way I'd describe Starship Troopers (the book) is that it's a Liberal Stratocracy. People who don't have the franchise still have civil liberties and if you read the book the civilians are allowed to complain without being imprisoned.

This is more like the United States back before universal suffrage (Early 1800s), but it's Federal Service as opposed to property ownership that gives one the right to vote. This is a sharp contrast to both major forms of Hegelian Totalitarianism (Fascism and Communism respectively) which would put people in work camps or mental institutions (in the Soviets' case) over any sort of political dissent.

I did not post this because I wanted him to talk about Rekieta. I posted it because I thought it was an interesting observation on taxscam and medication. Dr Steve also seems an interesting subject.

As someone who first saw the movie and the old animated series, when I picked up the book I was expecting something along those lines.

I was really surprised when I saw Dizzy was a dude in the books and dies first chapter, most of the book's content is academy students and their teacher discussing the merits and philosophy of their system.
Also, the book depiction of mobile infantry makes them more like mech pilots with portable nukes, as opposed to disposable grunts with shitty guns.

The works are different as night and day, yet I enjoyed both, but for different reasons.

Some minor lolicon news but Mr Cynical aka Rikafag had his channel terminated sometime very recently. I'm not sure when cause I checked some time this month to see if there was anything new going on with it & it was still there, but it's gone now.

Just a blatant open admission that he's a flaggot, which isn't a surprise −I'm just sick of seeing these types of people lying about it constantly. Eventually he's gonna piss of the wrong group of people & this shit's gonna happen to him.
 
I just watched Josh struggle to play Disco Elysium, a game that multiple "Just chatting" streamers on twitch have completed. It felt a lot like watching DSP play games. Watching him refuse to try different paths in the various speech trees, refusing to "waste time," while acknowledging that his skill levels are too low. Complete dependence on Claude, despite the fact that Claude appears to not know the first thing about the game. A beautiful disaster honestly. Disco Elysium in a visual novel masquerading as a CRPG, fail or succeed at anything in the game, and you will eventually complete it. There's an achievement called "What Body?" that you receive for never interacting with the hanged man. The only difficulty that Josh has faced playing this game was completely self-imposed. There's plenty of ways to "waste time" in the game, it will all lead to the end.
