To be fair, the only people in position to pay attention to that kind of stuff is old people. When your life is going to work and coming back home, the little free time you have you want to do stuff you like, which is by design. They want you overworked, working two jobs and trying to get as much OT as possible to make ends meet, and all of that just to pay your rent and buy weed and toys, which makes democracy a fucking sham.
It's insane that people can walk around with the latest iPhone in their pockets and it's a trillion times more powerful than the first computer ever created, but they can't afford a house. The technology to make a house is not as crazy as the one needed to make a phone, but someway you can get a great phone for a couple hundred dollars but need to spend 500k to buy a really shitty condo.

Yeah, but people have been building houses for thousands of years, the necessary scientific knowledge to make something as advanced as an iPhone just recently was made possible. In the grand scheme of things, your grandfather or great-grandfather had barely any education and could probably build a house, it's hard work but it's not rocket science. And that's not to descredit people who build houses and make everything look nice, i'm just saying that, if you think about it from the point of view of, like, the technological achievements of mankind, housing was one of the things we kinda got down very early on, be it by finding caves to live in, building huts or making houses with plywood, concrete, whatever.

Now, making an iPhone? Look at one of the first (if not THE FIRST) computers ever made: the ENIAC. It costed about 400k to make back in 1943, which is now 7 million dollars. It took up a whole office, it was operated by a bunch of people and it only was cappable of doing about 5000 additions per second, compare that to any modern smartphone now who are capable of making TRILLIONS of addition. A computer went from 7 million dollars to what? $200 to $1000 max (if we are talking iPhones)?
From a technological standpoint it doesn't make any sense to me that a house costs more than a computer, there's plenty of land for people to build homes and the materials are not that expensive, not enough to justify a shitty condo costing 500k.

He mentioned wanting to get a FN five-seven before, but I don't think he went through with that. If I remember correctly, he said he had a HK VP9 before he moved from the states, but now has an AR-15 (maybe AR-10?) of some sort and a Glock G43x now.

They refuse to learn from history, that's probably their biggest problem. It's fairly obvious to me that under communism they would still have to be subservient to the System. Some people just can't even imagine what's actually good for them and their compatriots. Imagine if the System had EVEN MORE control over your life. People who are old enough to remember what life in the Eastern Bloc looked like can tell you and modern day commies should listen to what those people have to say.
