He is trying to track everything like a scientist, which is one way to go about it. I've done that and i'm currently just doing what "feels right", so i don't weigh myself nor do i care about macros or anything, i just eat little and workout and i've lost a lot of weight. I can't brag about the numbers because i don't have them, but most of my old clothes fit me again.
Null is focused and what he has done so far has worked, so there's no reason for him to change what he's doing. If your BMI is >30 then it's a different game you're playing, you're not some skinnyfat trying to lose a few pounds, you're in for the long run, so you really can't go crazy and try to do 800 kcal a day cause it's not sustainable, you really have to plan on what you can do for 6 months, 1 year, 1 year and a half. I think that's why people who have only been slightly overweight mock Null for tracking calories and doing the spreadsheets, but if that's what's been working for him then that's fine.
You can't compare some skinny guy trying to lose 20 pounds and a guy that is still overweight even if he loses 80 pounds. Plus, it's hard for a fat guy to exercise because you will destroy your joints running and get even hungrier, which was why i got my diet in order before i thought about going to the gym.
