SCIPIO AFRICANVS most likely wasn't black, but it is plausible that LVSIVS QVIETVS (who BTFO'd Jews under OPTIMVS TRAIANVS) might have been since he is refered to as a "berber prince". He was most likely very bown doeever.

Also the fact that SEPTIMIVS SEVERVS (who was also of African descent) was s p o o k e d by a black soldier (according to HERODIANVS) might indicate that there might have not been that many blacks in the region (thus decresing the chances that QVIETVS was black). Or maybe there were and he just relaxed too much.

Scipio Africanus got his cognomen from his victory over the Carthaginians in the Second Punic war, particularly for defeating Hannibal at Zama. In general, there very few "black people," in North Africa until the Arab slave trade brought them north. This is further confused by sources like Herodotus using vague language. I believe you are referring to a passage where Herodotus describes a people as having skin "blackened by the sun.". I asked a professor I had in college about this passage and according to his own studies of the original Greek and the general consensus, this was language that would frequently be used to describe people who were darker then the average Greek. So brown almost certainly. Unlikely black, at least as far as the modern idea of black is concerned.

It should be Αἰθίοπες which would have described Nubians and Egyptians I believe. I assume that word can mean "Arab brown" and "darkie" in our context as opposed to λευκός which meant "Greek brown" and not ξανθός which was used for "whiteboy". I don't know that much about this topic doeever, would be nice if you could enlighten me.

Unfortunately, I only studied Latin. So I personally can't speak to the Greek translation. I tend to take the man at his word, but translations of such works are at least to some extent subject to the interpretation the translator.

Not him obviously, and while history was indeed written by the senatorial class, I think it's important to note that the average ancient person's world was a lot smaller than ours and that another tribe let alone another ethnicity was very different. An easy example is actually Rome, or specifically, the Early Republic, because what constituted "Rome" as far as where Romans came from and who were actual voting citizenry was a very small part of Italy. For a long time, "Italian Allies" such as the Samnites might have been of a similar genetic makeup but they were not at all seen as Romans until they were assimilated over hundreds of years but particularly after the Social War after and during which they were basically all made citizens anyways.

I fucking love ruckus core. It's also extremely funny to see rap reviewers crying about "I'm gonna have to skip this song because it's too offensive or TOS unsafe!" That's a real faggot thing to say about rap. Even the "real hood niggas" are ON THE PLANTATION.
