On the topic of bugs, I literally have no idea why we haven't made mosquitos go extinct. They don't pollinate, they just spread disease. We have the technology, we can destroy malaria forever. But someone at Big Mosquito clearly has their grubby little proboscis in the bioengineering sekturs

'Squitoes are just fodder for many smaller predators like bats and birbs. Fish and frogs eat their eggs and larva as well. They're one of those keystone species that's only point to exist as a food source.

I remember back in the original non-enshittified Lilo and stitch it was a running gag that the reason aliens left us the fuck alone was because the CIA psyopped them into thinking mosquitos were some extremely unique and endangered lifeform. Clearly other people have asked this fucking question enough that shit like this exists.

I've seen a shit ton of fireflies at night this year, they're always lighting up the road (...and my car) at night. Definitely haven't heard any cicadas though. One thing I noticed is that SLF were problematic in my area the past few years- I have not seen a single one this year: no eggs, nymphs, or adults.

Because mosquitoes are a food source for many other animals such as birds, bats, lizards and Africans.
