Can confirm my local McDonalds has something similar deployed, and I've seen them in grocery store parking lots too.

It's some kind of solar panel powered two way video/audio surveillance station on a high pole attached to a two wheeled towable base, and (what are I assume) temps/contractors probably in some call center miles/states away will yet at anyone who hangs around too long over the speakers to leave while threatening to call the cops, and if they're not bitching at everyone, it blasts classical music at an pretty inescapable volume nonstop.

You can hook the whole thing up to a trailer hitch and put it wherever you want to deploy it from what I could tell by eyeballing it, pretty slick. Seems to have a heavy metal shell around it that is locked up all to hell to discourage vandalism/tampering too.

I had to explain what the fuck it was to my extended family who had all met up there as a convenient meeting point for a further group journey together, and kind of waggle my eyebrows about the racial/socioeconomic angle once that segment of the topic came up until they all nodded knowingly.

I don't know who is putting these things on the market or what they're even called but it's totally a thing now (and it seems to work great lol). That poster millais from their original thread should be getting a cut if they aren't already. They started their thread in 2019 and I didn't see these things till 2023/2024. PAY MILLAIS!!!

EDIT: I don't think they're always monitored by actual people, because sometimes you'll find one yelling what sounds like AI voice about the store is closed please disperse the authorities are being notified, like in the middle of the afternoon while everyone is trying to shop. But I have heard real voices talk shit from them so 🤷‍♂️. I always joke we all think those are stupid, but wait till they put a chain gun on one.
