A rainbow table of 4chan tripcodes wouldn't include anything over 8 characters.
#12345678 would have the same output as #123456789 since 4chan truncates the string before hashing. It's the same password.
Only secure tripcodes can have more characters for the password.

Is your objection that you can hash #123456789 anyway? It's a waste of space and time to do so.
Any random result over 8 characters would be impossible to verify.

Also IIRC for the longest time WoW would force your password uppercase before hashing and checking hehehe
