Finally a wholesome transgender sports story- Spain's first transgender soccer team makes debut in regional men's league
A soccer team consisting entirely of transgender men has made its debut in a regional league in Spain, overcoming administrative challenges and prejudice to become the first all-trans squad to achieve federated status in Europe.
The team, named Fenix FC after the mythical bird symbolising rebirth, played some friendlies and seven-a-side games last season but now competes in the fifth tier in the northwestern region of Catalonia after being incorporated into a local club in the Barcelona suburb of Sant Feliu de Llobregat.

Hugo Martinez, 24, told Reuters he faced abuse when he began transitioning with gender-affirming hormone therapy and was forced to leave the women's soccer team in which he had played.

"I was a boy playing in the girls' team, but without a changed ID, so I wasn't yet allowed to play with boys," he said, recounting how other players, coaches and parents in the stands often hurled insults and threats at him.
The experience prompted Martinez to put out a call online for other trans men seeking to play soccer in a safe environment. Setting up Fenix FC took three years.

IDK how it is in Europe, but at least in the US almost all "mens" leagues are open to anyone who is competitive. I'm assuming most of the resistance was just not wanting to play a team of people who are all physically less capable at playing soccer and wasting everyone's time.
Captain Luke Ibanez, 19, said he was hesitant about playing for a team with cisgender - or non-trans - men, as he feared he would not fit in or even suffer violence. So when Martinez told him about his idea for an all-trans side, he quickly jumped on board.

"Fenix is a team of trans boys created entirely by trans boys, but I think it's more than that - a family, a safe space where you can be free and express yourself however you want and how you really feel."

Fenix's first game of the season on Sept. 21 ended with a 19-0 defeat. But for its fans and players, trans men having the right to play their favourite sport on equal terms is far more important than the score.

On October 3, the British government announced that it was giving up sovereignty over a small tropical atoll in the Indian Ocean known as the Chagos Islands. The islands would be handed over to the neighboring island country of Mauritius, about 1,100 miles off the southeastern coast of Africa.

Once this treaty is signed, the British Indian Ocean Territory will cease to exist. Various international bodies will update their records. In particular, the International Standard for Organization (ISO) will remove country code “IO” from its specification. The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA), which creates and delegates top-level domains, uses this specification to determine which top-level country domains should exist. Once IO is removed, the IANA will refuse to allow any new registrations with a .io domain. It will also automatically begin the process of retiring existing ones. (There is no official count of the number of extant .io domains.)

Officially, .io—and countless websites—will disappear. At a time when domains can go for millions of dollars, it’s a shocking reminder that there are forces outside of the internet that still affect our digital lives.

Oh, I guess ISO/IANA will delete the .SU domains that Moscow's NIC still sells to this fucking day then, right? The only TLD that I know they deleted is .DD, for the Deutsche Demokratische Republik (as opposed to .DE for Deutsche Bundesrepublik), but that never actually got used outside of the DDR government which also ceased to exist..

.IO will continued to be handled by whatever company currently handles it, but the proceeds will probably begin to benefit the regional government of the islands as opposed to the UK, assuming it doesn't already.

muh rulez of IANA will suck Microsoft's massive hard cock. The rules only make sense if you don't consider entities with enormous global reach already using it. If fucking Lesotho was annexed, it'd make sense. Not IO.

I'm genuinely baffled at the responses to this post I've seen so far (p2503). And you guys find it unbelievable that FEMA wants to nab and inventory shipments of chainsaws? Journalists aren't covering this shit, and we of all people know damn well why. Real volunteers aren't doing this for social media and aren't going into these situations prepared to record everything.
