I will say I did listen to an Easter sermon by an SSPX congregation in the US by Livestream and I was extremely turned off by just how negative it was. The guy was quite young and very obviously disgruntled by the reigning pope, lack of attendance, and other things. I'm sure from his perspective to see a lack of engagement and legitimacy to the thing he gave up sex and family for is disheartening but it definitely doesn't make a great pitch.

The great thing about Christmas in Europe is these stupid Christmas markets. They're even in Croatia and if you visit a small town it's a collection of stalls selling tasty food cooked over wood fires. Kids are running around and there's warm alcohol. It's pleasant. Nobody wears masks. It's very separate from the rest of the world.

Idk I guess my point is that I think US southern baptists are insane, Catholics are persuasive and represent a very legitimate organization with centuries of theological debates in their history but with very questionable practices and direction, and orthodoxy is so alien to me I might as well do Judaism or Islam. Protestants and Lutherans in Europe have a median age of 60 at this point.

I think Jersh’s argument about Porn Marketing is true. It just seems to work for anime too well to say otherwise. I think people who disagree think Jersh is arguing that marketing can make people stick with something instead of impulsively buy it, which is what matters.

And it has a long history in video games. There are a lot of super popular female characters I could name, but won’t unless asked, who I do not believe would be praised like they are if they had a more modest design. In many cases it’s not even because they’re secretly terrible characters but because they’re effusively overpraised in a way that makes no sense. They’re credited for X while they’re doing Y, and the nearest psychological term for this is the Halo Effect. People want to like them so they invent half-true (at best) rationales.
 
My uncle is a monsignor priest and according to him most priest done like the current pope and the next likely candidate to be pope when Francis dies (though there is always rumor that he will retire mainly due to the last pope) is some priest that's been doing extensive missionary and medical work in Africa(name escapes me). Mainly because most of the cardinals he's talked to like his call to return to tradition and have a heavier focus on scripture.
