If halfchan gets taken out for a while, mayhaps a "person" stream for 4chan perchance? No one's punched a 5.7mm hole in his or her or xir head that we know of, but the narrative history of Something Awful in the Lowtax stream was nice. It's probably my most replayed episode of MATI cuz it's lowkey kino. Could contrast Moot to Lowtax, or go in depth to the jannybooks more than a regular MATI would probably allow.

TIL: you could get Italian citizenship anywhere in the world if you had at least one ancestor who was a citizen in Italy after 1861, when Italy finally came together as a country.

They're making it harder recently because of all the paperwork energy and resources required, but they shouldn't. Jus sanguinis would be a great way for Italy to counteract the infestation.

Unfortunately, I am very Anglo-Saxon and otherwise northwestern European in ancestry. Josh is of recent Italian extraction, no? I would look into it. I think having one grandparent still applies.

iirc i have a great great maternal link and I would need to hire a firm to file my application, get denied, then petition that my denial was sexist, and automatically win - a process that takes years and a lot of money.

The law was changed a couple of weeks ago. If you were born outside of Italy but have an Italian parent or a grandparent you are automatically an Italian citizen by birth.

Up until a month ago smaller municipalities were inundated with requests from particularly Brazilians and Argentinians, I'll let you imagine how easy it is to go find a birth or death certificate or do any kind of genealogy research dating back more than a century.

Once they obtained citizenship and an Italian passport, people who never set foot in the country, never learned to speak a word or never contributed in any way to the development of the country could apply for a pension, use the national health service, move somewhere in the world very easily since the Italian passport is one of the best in the world etc etc.

Two-generation ius sanguinis is the most sensible solution. You don't get rid of unwanted people by giving other foreigners a citizenship just because they happen to have Rossi, Moravia or Montalbano as their last name.

Just find yourself a Marzia, move to a northern region of the country and after a few short years get citizenship that way. Or seduce Giorgia Meloni, I'm sure she'd love an Amerimutt.

Easy peasy, although god help you if you ever consider moving to Italy. You think American bureaucracy is a nightmare? Good fucking luck dealing with ours.
