Machinima Officially Shuttered, 81 Employees Laid Off
machinima1.jpg

A couple of weeks ago we saw the unceremonious gutting of Youtube creator network Machinima, as its entire video library vanished on Youtube as contracts were terminated or transferred to another network called Fullscreen as part of Machinima's merger with the Time Warner-owned Otter Media. Yesterday the company announced what we all knew was coming: It's shutting down.

Deadline reports the company has made an official statement on the matter, including the announcement it is purging 81 people from its staff as part of its own end. "Machinima has ceased its remaining operations, which includes layoffs," a spokesperson told Deadline. "[CEO] Russell Arons remains with Machinima, and is assisting with transitional activities as she explores new opportunities."

Over the years, Machinima had been host to various gaming-related videos and parodies, including its namesake creative content made entirely with in-game assets of games. Some of its popular videos included a remake of Terminator 2 in Grand Theft Auto V and the Street Fighter series Resurrection.

Awh man... I have nostalgia for some of this shit. Good night sweet prince.

Thought this was gonna be a repeat article about their channel getting scrubbed, but damn, that's depressing.

Fuck Warner Bros.

Does this mean Rooster Teeth, that DC streaming site or CN are going to be shuttered sometime soon?

I mean, the channel had it coming considering their last major series was the crapfest known as the Prime Wars Trilogy, as well as the shit that happened with Pewds and DSP over the past few years that resulted in both men's terminations, but it's still pretty depressing that Warner's basically giving their remaining employees the middle finger with this move.

It couldn't circle the bowl forever, the latest round of journo layoffs should signal that anyone not making a definitive profit is on the chopping block at ALL media outlets.

Games, social commentary, sports, nothings' off-limits as the VC for keeping these useless SJW-flavored sites alive in the hopes they'll SOMEDAY turn a profit is fading fast.

Honestly, I thought they were already dead.

I don't know about the last two but I think Rooster Teeth is still gonna be around for at least the near future. They got a decent fan base, enough to keep a yearly con going at least, not to mention they got their big sponsors in the way of Otter Media and WB. If worst comes to worst and WB cuts off thier funding I can see them surviving by axing some of the fat like their animation department and other hangers on.

RIP in pepperoni. I never liked Rooster Teeth and Red vs Blue stopped being remotely amusing when they started taking themselves too seriously with that AI bullshit and doing those shitty animated fights. It amazes me how many white knights it had that would furiously defend that shit to death. Hell even when it wasn't a drama series it wasn't that great.

I remember people freaking out when DSP was dropped from Machinima and were saying that Phil would never survive without Machinima's support. Looks like it was the other way around!
Stupid kid detractors were wrong again. Nothing will stop the Legacy.

Honestly I dont think I've watched machinima in any capacity since I was immature enough to think red vs blue was hysterical in like 2006.
