So went back to try out mugen again is there any other sites to download stuff for it other than mugen archive because I don't want to fucking participate in their gay forum just to download anything over 100MB. It was bad enough they make you wait 24 hours after making an account just to download anything.

Edit: yeah fuck this shit. The mugen community is retarded, their forum is dead and gay and who the fuck goes and creates such retarded a barrier of entry for something that's already niche and already has a fairly steep technical barrier of entry.

This is one of the many reasons why M.U.G.E.N. is, has always been and will forever be the best fighting game ever. End of discussion!

This isn't mugen specifically, but Dong Dong Never Die scratches the same itch.

I miss stuff like this, now all everyone wants to do is make the worse, most unreadable character screen imaginable while also making the most conflicting, unbalanced roster possible...but in a shitty weeb way rather than a fun way. I remember dabbling in Mugen 20 years ago and they were gatekeeping some of the best fighters. Looking back, i’m glad i never got into Mugen.

Mugen is one of the few fan projects I would not be sad about Nintendo or some other litigious game company trying to take down just because of how they are. And, considering 99% of all their shit is copyrighted characters, you'd think they'd be a little less fuckedy about it. I don't remember it always being this way. I remember years ago as a teenager freely downloading mugen shit without any kind of forum gatekeeping faggotry but then again maybe I just didn't know about those characters.
 
Is there a good Frank West character for MUGEN yet? Been thinking of building my own game again. I did so years ago but I think that hard drive is lost or got corrupted, can't remember.

Yeah, because I'm sure companies like Capcom would be thrilled at the idea some outsiders were able to create Capcom vs SNK 2 characters, complete with all the Grooves from that game. Come on, this is all pirated stuff using official sprites. Oh, and now AI is in the mix, so...hm, I'll just let people ITT ponder about that.

That said, I think Randomselect was a site that got into contact with someone in SNK and they were ok with the use of their sprites.
(this was ages ago, and randomselect is dead, so...grain of salt and all that)

Time has vindicated me so much on this community's stupidity. Like, no shit, the fan who made a shitty geocities website decades ago wasn't going to keep paying to keep that site up. So of course, you can imagine a number of creations have been lost to time forever because of that stupid rule. Other creations are only up because of so-called MUGEN warehouse sites. I.e. sites that actually bothered to archive characters.
A lil video for people already somewhat familiar with what MUGEN is:
 
When I was basically a kid, I remember being autistically into those stupid Orochi/Mizuchi edits that were designed to be as overpowered as humanly possible. You would have to search every nook and cranny of the internet to find some of them, and sometimes the authors would private the characters to create this artificial sense of rarity. Some of the creators threw absolute fucking shitfits when their "LE SUPER RARE EDITS" got leaked. Looking back it was pointless as hell to get so upset over an overpowered edit of a preexisting character. Gold Orochi is one I remember being hyped up.
