Today my wife and I were playing Mario Kart when she started laughing at Luigi during character selection. When I asked her what was so funny, she informed me that in Chinese, a man who's wife was cheating on him would wear a green hat (or would be given a green hat by his wife if she wanted to let him know he's a cuck) as a sign of shame.

This is because "green hat" sounds similar to cuckold in Mandarin and the Chinese make a big deal out of homophones. For example, many buildings in China skip fourth floor like westerners skip the 13th because it sounds similar to the word for death.
