I don't think Lucas would even be happy with that. He had that studio apartment where he paid little rent, and talked down about it the second he got there.
Lucas would only be happy with a mommy wife that works and does everything for him.
He didn't like the apartment at Pioneer Pathway because it wasn't a nice larger apt. When he was still at Phoenix house he thought at the end of the 6 mo he was going to moved to a bigger better place. He was moved to a 1 room efficiency where he had to use a communal restroom in building for the mentally ill and people trying to recover from some kind of addiction.
He has said the gov't does everything for him but if he gets a young girlfriend/wife, she will be taking on the responsibility. The housing he is eligible for is people with disabilities and the only way he can get out of that type of housing is if can move in with a girl.

I'm thinking this apartment saga has something to do with it. This is based purely on my own opinions but:
Beds at Mallon are limited and the hobo paradise of Spokane ensures demand will outstrip supply by orders of magnitude.
The first place he was in was a lot more clinical/long term care. Tile floors, pissproof mattresses, nurses and house cleaning etc. There is probably a program to rehab the physically able out of Mallon. Once Lucas' meds were stabilized (remember when he was a zombie and had tremors?) They probably moved him to a transitional wing.
The new room is much nicer, it has carpeting and from what he was saying it's up to him to take care of his laundry ("there's my laundry pile, I haven't put it in a bag yet"). Mallon is probably tard wrangling him into a section 8 or similar apartment.
Dude could theoretically live for another two decades, on paper. He's not quadriplegic or nonverbal or anything, so I bet you Mallon doesn't want to waste a long term care bed on him.

If this is true and I am not sure it is. This is some sort of social services agency that works with the exceptional to help them get jobs. These agencies work directly with the employers and work as job coaches. The employer knows they are hiring an exceptional individual. The employer gets a tax break for this.

They will give short hours, not even part time often, and are usually eligible for some recompense from the gov’t to hire them on.
That’s how they work in canada, anyway, I’m sure it varies by state.
