Pitt the Elder was a brilliant diplomat who was beloved by the public in Great Britain.

It was also beloved by the American colonialists, it is said that he was such a great diplomat that he would probably have arranged a deal between the colonialists and the crown over the tax problem that they were facing that led to the Independence War. But he was too old and died shortly after the independence.
