I dunno about impotent rage, more like the classic "you were always meant to be special" trope. People joke that Harry Potter was the first isekai, and while that's silly, it's very similar in that a new world of possibilities has awakened for you.

The first isakai that i was aware of was a Connecticut yankee in king authors court, and it was satire by mark twain to poke fun of romanticism over the middle ages.

I HATE harry potter. Honestly with harry potter, i don't think the Dursleys did anything wrong. So you have the sole survivor of wizard hitlers pogrom in your house, you did not ask to be his guardian, you hated his parents, and they got themselves killed over politics you have no part in. Have an extra mouth to feed that also put's a political target on your back. At the same time, they do their damndest to hide him from the real world. We say "oh they are abusive" but magic hitler, who you do NOT understand, who has a wizard supremacists death squad, is out and about. They didn't tell him any of it. IF they pulled it off he would have been a normal guy with mildly abusive childhood. That wasn't abuse, that was people who don't have all the facts trying their best to deal with a shit situation.

Looking back at harry potter, we realize that a woman DID write it, because it's all over the place and kinda stupid. but it's a book about boarding school and wizards so i should not over analyze it. But yeah Isakai is a black pill

There are a few good iseaki. But today they would be called "reverse iseaki" like when the magical world comes to the real world. That is different. Another is where the cast is trying to get home Jumangi style. The ones where they want to stay and give up on getting back are pure blackpill if you think on it hard enough. The Jap would rather die and start over than continue on or get back to their old life.

I view the reverse iseaki as pro immigrant propaganda. They know their culture is over. In fact i think there are more karate dojos in the US than in all of japan. That's how bad it is. I fully blame them for being responsible for enshittification because it's impacted more than anime, nearly everything is like that now with a pursuit to be "self-made" or having cookie cutter methods be explained to people by design comittees and the like which is what makes art and anime and vidya and logos all look the same (look at twitter troon "artists" and such). It's made shit that would have been unthinkable and unacceptable in the 80s quality-wise be yearned for as a bare minimum.

And even those don't really use martial arts much, they prefer all the fictional rub-a-dick poison instakill bullshit instead of acrobatic kicks. It's our romanticization of that aspect of their culture that made it way better than it is to your average Nip.

One thing I’ve noticed is that a lot of art schools, both east and west, don’t teach fundamentals to students as much as they used to. I’ve seen a concerning number of Japanese animators who don’t understand how to make characters look proportionate or how to animate horse walk cycles (both of which used to be mandatory for animators to know).
