Because we all know her "polyamorous relationship" seems completely fulfilling and affirming, not at all like soul-crushing, clingy desperation and a new level of self-hatred.

She looks like she could be a 34B or other respectable bra size. A lot of people consider tall, small breasted women to be very beautiful. One, they look youthful. Two, less sag. Three, they look fit. If you run, do ballet, swim...you're probably going to not have a lot of fat anywhere on your body. I think to most people, fitness is attractive, not someone who looks ill.

He's chosen a fit partner (at least physically...I don't know why she's agreeing to be with a man who's not only married but who has a fat hateful wife). I get what his goals are but I don't know why either of them are with him.

This is what happened with Barack Obama's parents. But to be fair, when someone is in a new territory they often take their opportunities where they can find them. A lot of white guys "married" native American women by their customs, had 3-4 kids, then abandoned their families to go marry a white society girl. There was one case in Canada in the 1800s where the guy's eldest native son actually brought a lawsuit and the courts forced the dad to pay child support so the younger kids would be provided for. The only difference is that now it sometimes happens to white women. And really this could happen with any man from the developing world. Around the world, some documents are still on paper only so it's hard to search. They can even be handwritten in some cases. So it would be tough for a woman to know if someone's here as a grad student or something. If he doesn't tell her he's married, how is she going to run his background? Although checking IG would be a good first step.

Nigeria has the extremist polygamist Muslims, but many Nigerians are also basically Anglicans. In fact, the African Anglican church is way more conservative than the US, UK, and Canada. So a lot of Nigerians are also sincere Christians who believe in lifelong monogamous marriage. I know a Nigerian doctor and he asks girls if they've accepted Jesus Christ on the first date. I've tried to tell him like, don't spring that on them it's probably scaring them, but it's actually really important to him.

She's still married to the jazz musician who's cuckolding her BTW. She has a legit media career. I'm baffled by Lindy and Mallory Ortberg/Danny Lavery settling for men who obviously like to humiliate them.

IDK if Aham actually likes to humiliate Lindy the way Joe does to Mal, I think he might just be selfish and manipulative. I think he married Lindy because she had money, but in the end he wasn't really attracted to her. And he figured he could keep her hanging on and paying for stuff while still dating someone conventionally attractive.

For Lindy's side, a significant part of her career is 'fat activism', and the attempts at tearing down society's beauty standard. And for her, having a man who's more in line with conventional beauty standards is the trophy to hold up and say 'See! See how right I am? I'm not unattractive, because this attractive man married me!' She put a lot of stock in her husband not being fat, despite the hypocrisy of wanting her own obesity to be disregarded while not wanting a fat man herself.

And maybe by this point in time she's come to realize that there's not a whole lot she can do about people's aesthetic preferences and that if she got divorced, the only dudes out there for her are going to be men she finds unattractive. So she's pretending to be ok with things as a cope, rather than face up to marrying a man for superficial reasons that were then weaponized against her.

I agree, this is the best that she can do. If she divorced him, chances are she would have to be the one to pay him alimony. She will not find a conventionally attractive man to be with her and knows this despite her fat activism. Lindy has also porked back up, likely realizing that losing 100 pounds didn’t do a damn thing to improve her relationship prospects, especially now that she’s on the wrong side of being middle aged.

She’s a good story of what happens to you if you decide to be as fat and repugnant as her but these people never want to learn so I guess we’ll just continue to make fun of her.

But I'll add this: it really struck me that she can look this bad for an outlet that was clearly doing everything it could to talk her up. Imagine what she looks like on an average day.
 
Lindy's husband responded on instagram stories, but he's already made his profile private. I found this on reddit and am assuming it's genuine:

The past week I have been bombarded, trolls coming out of the woodwork to message me horrible things, to say my daughters deserve a better father, to say I am there representation of everything bad about men (I am non-binary). I've had literal f-ing TMZ trying to call me (didn't answer), the Daily Mail messaging me (didn't respond) and all these absolutely vile entities trying to do their part to make my life worse, me... a person they had certainly never heard of and had no interest in, but suddenly I am worthy of note when there is hate to be stirred. What is this world we have built?

I'm not going to defend myself and tell you about my positive attributes because 1. I don't owe that to anyone, and 2. because there are too many to list, I live every day with integrity, I am proud of who I am and how I treat people and the only people accusing me of anything are COMPLETE STRANGERS WHO HAVE NEVER MET ME. and lets just be honest about what this is, its just fear of polyamory and any relationship model that hasn't been sanctioned by the "general public" this is just about trying to push people back into the box for being different, trying to force other people to live the way you think they should live so you never have to question your own life and choices."

I have so many questions. Like, how can an actual real writer (sort of) stand to be married to someone who creates these mishmash ungrammatical horror sentences and mixes up 'there' and 'their' EVEN when referring to themself? (themselves? I don't fucking know, and it's not because MY grammar sucks). How can a guy be so oblivious to the fact that his wife's writing screams HELP SAVE ME I'M DYING to every woman who ever comes across it, and instead is like, yeah, nah, you're all just bigots, really, all three thousand of you hysterical femoids, like what, you think you're picking up on something here?

There is a dark psychological horror movie in Lindy West, I swear. You wouldn't even need to film most of it, you could just use the footage of her sitting on a barstool in her underwear insisting "nooo it's GREAAAAT, really" and zoom in on her fixed smile while some little thin slattern rubs herself all over her husband.

I think I see why Lindy isn't a particularly popular lolcow (apart from the fact she hasn't done much for years). This is just incredibly sad. I don't know if she's really going to kill herself, but this relationship is absolutely not going to last.

Ironically, it's more like female nonsense. If you just swapped a couple words and didn't tell anyone who wrote it, they'd all assume a woman did. Which gender is more likely to call themselves "non-binary" and dress up their selfish behavior with a smokescreen of buzz words and phrases like "lived truth" and "finding what you want and need" while complaining about "online hate" and people being "fearful and insecure" about what's different? This guy has basically adopted a female persona to deflect criticism, lol.

Edit: I read those tweets and Jesus Christ this is a great example of someone caring WAY WAY WAAAAAY too much about other peoples opinions than about what they want. She could really stand to be sliiiiightly more selfish and idk do what she wants to do without other people butting in to tell her why she can’t do what she wants to do because reasons.
