About a year ago I was totally baffled at SJWs white knighting for radical Islam, but now it's pretty obvious. Lit-sperg time- that's part of the reason why Nabokov's Lolita was accused of being a pedophile manual, because Nabokov realized this is precisely what pedophiles do. The point is abundantly clear that the pedophile of the novel is just fucked up. Of course, that requires the reader to understand the concept of an "unreliable narrator" and actually have read the book. Due to the content, many people avoid the book, because it is unpleasant and creepy as all hell. That's the point.

Back to seriousness, they do it because they're projecting onto others their sick desires. They project onto children, claiming the children are wanting to fuck adults, "tempting" them, and that they're somehow mature enough for sex. They project onto other adults, saying that everyone wants to fuck children. To a pedo, a normal adult's protestations otherwise are seen as them being hypocrites instead of honest about how they don't want to fuck children. However, they do know what they're doing is wrong and something everyone except other pedos would want to kill them for.
 
Most pedophiles talk about how they were the victim, rather than the child. There are many cases in which the pedophile defends themselves this way. "They initiated contact!" "They wanted it."

This is also how rapists think. They truly believe that everyone does rape or wants to, but that people are too shy / embarrassed / not ballsy enough to talk about it publicly. No no no and no.

Children, as a group, don't understand things like gender beyond "boys have an outie and girls have an innie". They're just children and there's nothing sexual about them. This is why a boy aged five might dress up in his mother's dress and wear high heels while a girl might roughhouse with some of her male friends. This doesn't mean that they're automatically gay. It's just that they're playing. Children learn stuff by doing and by seeing others do it.

Now if said boy is still crossdressing at sixteen and the girl is still playing with the boys as if she was one then it's a lot safer to assume they're queer or at the very least not completely straight.
