In September 2020, Murray said that while some of the staff were still working on continued updates for No Man's Sky, the remaining staff were working on a new game, but to avoid the issues around No Man's Sky's launch hype, he planned to keep specifics of the game quiet. Murray said in April 2022 of the game, still in its early stages, "it's the kind of project that even if we had a thousand people working on it, it'd still seem impossible".

At The Game Awards 2023 in December, Murray introduced Light No Fire, another exploration and survival game like No Man's Sky based around procedural generation. However, instead of multiple worlds, Light No Fire was focused on one singular world all players would participate in, which Murray said was a "truly open world" that was "bigger than the Earth", with more realistic features and denser content than the planets generated by No Man's Sky. Murray said Light No Fire was "something more ambitious" than No Man's Sky.

Light No Fire is the next ambitious game from the studio behind No Man’s Sky
According to Hello’s Sean Murray, the game has been in development for the last five years by a small team. He describes it as “the first real open world” with no boundaries, which also has an online multiplayer component. From the trailer it appeared to have elements like crafting and mining, and also the ability to ride flying mounts.

I believe him this time. He's definitely telling the truth this time.

he will deliver the promises after 6 years again lmao

Looks a lot like Valheim, and I'm pretty sure that there are other procedurally-generated games that are as large as Earth, like Minecraft.
Personally, even if they deliver what the trailer promises, I wouldn't give a fuck about the game, I just don't care about "open-world procedurally-generated survival co-op" games anymore.

What's more interesting to me is how much of this Todd will ape for TES6 and then claim they totally had this idea first because they're borrowing from Daggerfall. Once Todd finishes strangling Emil, he'll stick his best pajeets on it. At least Will Shen dipped as soon as Starfield released. We won't be seeing him again.

Personally, I don't think they can procgen an entire planet. The oceans will be ponds, the mountains will be hills, and none of it will be interesting. Building dumb little hovels isn't interesting. I feel like this game has probably been made already and sold about 300 copies after which Steam demoted it to never show up on the first page of any search.

Open world crafting mid fantasy games are a thing of the past. Sean Murray should have waited a few years for an AI that can generate a better map.

I feel like the trailer was another pre-rendered thing of what they want the game to be, not what it is, like with No Man's Sky. The scale when they get on the dragon goes all wacky and it looks like a bad animation, not a game. Unless that is their voxel thing distorting scale, but I doubt that.

With how barren Starfield's procgen was, I would hope that Todd won't even bother trying. No way they're going to be able to bolt that onto the shitheap Gamebryo is.
